Bud Cassell is my great uncle. I loved going to Cass to visit family as a child. I stayed with my great grandmother. The train passed just below the hill she lived on. I’d run out when I heard the train coming and wave. He would give a toot as they went by. Great memories.

My caving buddies explored Caas Cave, underneath the mountain this railroad traverses. We had to take the rail tour after we explored the cave. You see the black smoke blasting out of the train engine? It pelts you as you ride along! Tiny, hot pellets hit your face and arms. It's the real experience of coal fired engines! I never realized that diesel doesn't work as a fuel for the engines due to the steep grade of the track! Great video.

We held off posting it so they could use it at the Cass museum first. But thank you for the responses and hope you enjoyed watching the video!

You are correct, the Heisler is being operated at Durbin for now but it is still owned by the state park system. And as of this summer the Climax is now under steam just in time for her 100th birthday. Hope you enjoyed the video.
