I think it's amazing the 50s aesthetic was SO strong even in chainsaws of the era! Awesome looking saws.

Great video absolutely enjoyed it bud... thank you. You have an amazing collection of vintage saws some that brought back old memories. I was raised around chainsaws as my family did a lot of felling. My folks used the saws to cut pulpwood when money got tight... we could make a few dollars. I started using saws at the early age of 10 bucking and at 12 I was using them on my own felling the smaller trees. When my friends were playing with Tonka trucks, I was running saws lol. I’m glad I got to see some of the saws of the 50's and 60’s in use, but I was too young to handle most of those. We ran mostly McCulloch saws with bow bars that could be very dangerous (kickback) unless you knew how to use them. It's something that gets in your blood, and you can’t shake it. Now at 65 I still enjoy running saws, felling trees, and milling lumber with them. I don’t have any vintage saws, but I do own 5 that I use regularly from 42cc to 92cc. Again... great video thank you for taking the time to put this out.

That guy with the tile saw is probably thinking the same thing about you Dan; “that guy with the chainsaws”. But that’s ok, we all have what we love and what we despise. The trick is to like what we love and hold it dear while keeping what we despise distant from us but not so distant that we can’t learn. Albeit learn how to love and use or learn to dislike even MORE. That’s just human nature.

We had a Mall saw at the ranch when I was a boy. Gear driven, I think, with the necessity of turning the bar when felling. It was okay for bucking big log butts, that sort of thing, but a real mankiller. It was the first chainsaw I ever ran.

Great video Dan and thanks to show us your treasures.. Want to add 2 things: The S10 was only made from 67 to 73. The 08 was made for long time however. Your 051 is a pretty early one judging from the style of the air filter cover and the muffler guard. I'd date it not later than 1975. In a am earlier comment I explained how to check it. Best wishes and great to see your in better mood.. Marco

Durning WWII my dad was a teen- a local boat building factory(Larson Boats, Little Falls, Minnesota) turned in to a crate builder for the government- his friends dad had a 1 1/2 ton '35 Chevrolet truck, flatbed- they delivered and set tombstones, and also did logging- they had a chain saw but it could only be used for bucking- they'd cut down trees with a two man saw and axes, load the flat bed with cant hooks- there were three of them (all teen agers) but only room for two in the cab, one guy had to ride the load of logs and it was cold, and rough!

Hey David, thanks for thr kind words..try turning both jets in all the way then back them out about 1 1/2 turns, should be a good starting point...if it still won't run try squirting some mix fuel down the carb and pull it over with throttle wide open, if it doesn't want to run maybe ignition problems? Good luck man 😊

DON'T YOU DARE DISPARAGE MY CRAPSMAN HOMO(wner) SAW!!!!!! I LOVE THAT LITTLE TOY!!!!! JK, you were working on a little 009 Stihl in a video and I used it for reference to fix a couple 011s. I have a little craftsman saw that is either a McCullough or Poulan that someone gave me and it's a nice little one hand brush saw. Then I have a homelite xl98 demo saw on deck, and an Eager Beaver that I'll get running just for the challenge. Your videos are not only informative but interesting so please pump them out. Some diagnostic videos would be really helpful if you find the time to make one, maybe go over common problems and how to find/fix them, maybe even some more advanced tricks like spraying heavily soaped water around the crank seals on a boggy saw to see if it has blowby or is sucking air, leaving a (lean?) condition

I already had an obsession with early small engine stuff from the 50s-70s and this video has made it worse lol. The PM310 i have has already been described as far too dangerous by people around me so i dread what they would think of something from the mid 50s

Cool video. Love this kind of history about saws. McCulloch was a pioneer in chainsaws. The story of that company and Havasu is really interesting. Was great to meet ya at Tazapalooza. Love your saw collection!

Before man invented the steel axe and the hand saw , I'm pretty sure the used some kind of dinobeaver powered saw. Can't remember for sure, it's been years since I watched The Flintstones.

A 95 year old neighbor had a Mall gear driven saw and he told me that if he hung the chain up in the cut the rivets would pull out of the chain. Lots of torque. He had to give up logging from the vibration that caused arm and hand issues. I guess Emil Lerp invented the gasoline powered saw and named it Dolmar. I understand the first direct drive saw was the Solo Rex in the 1950‘s? Great video! Love the sounds, even the tile saw!👍
