In Mexico,C & S América & Caribbean, English, French,!Portuguese, Papiamento, etc. there are many diverse & colorful zChristmas traditions, especially music, song, & dance, though historically rather new from 15 1700s.See eebsites & videos under S America,!Caribbean,Brazilian, etc., Christmas celebrations Christmas music song dance, etc. Féliz Navidad y Prospero Ano Nuevo! Take note, a thoroughly _pagan_ celebration to a Roman idol-god, Saturn, was slapped with a new label called "Christmas", though it was still heathen to the rotten-core! --- All costumes derived from pagan traditions! Christ was NOT born in the dead of Winter, but either in Spring or Autumn. For shepherds were yet out in the fields. And His birthday is NOT commanded to be observed, but rather is death: Passover occurs in Spring.

You are correct. In order to spread Christianity the popes took over certain pagan holidays and made them their own. There are some Christian sects that do not celebrate Christmas.
