Hey HPT the Japanese school is pronounced Maho toh ko ro. Mahou literally meaning magic in Japanese and Tokoro meaning by the way which I assume to translate to the magical way or the way of magic. My Japanese isnt very good but from my understanding that is what I garnered from the translation.

@@Jedda678 Tokoro actually means place or location. Calling it Mahoutokoro actually sounds really awkward in Japanese but I’m sure the intention was for it to mean “magical place” and google translate popped that out.

In Poland we have a Harry Potter themed summer camp for children from 9 to 18 years old. They are being taken to famous polish castles (like Czocha) sorted to houses (different than in the books) and taught things like potions, spells and all of the other stuff, all while wearing robes. The funniest thing is the tourists passing by and being very confused (those muggles… so unaware) Edit: Wow I didn't expect my comment to blow up so much, glad you enjoyed it! In fact I'm going there as a "professor" this summer. It's called Quatromondis if you're curious and wanna google it (there's Quatronum too, it was part of mondis in the past but they split to two :( ) Edit2: we have the English variant also ;)

They never actually acknowledge the language barrier, do they? Because making Brazil the only South American country with a Wizarding school means that most South Americans would struggle attending classes in Portuguese rather than in Spanish. It's probably worst for the Japanese and African schools which are meant to be the only schools of Asia and Africa respectively and which continents have a huge variety of languages. So, I guess magic universal translators have a to be a thing.

Heavily guarded by the latest in surveillance and combative tools. It burrows deep underground for the secrecy and protection from the outside. It was formed in 1960 in direct response to help and protect those of the continent from the possibilities of self-inflicted nuclear burns the muggles would possibly inflect against each other. They specialize in survival, security, surveillance, and secrecy. The four S’es. The entrance starts at a tunnel under the mountain, and leads to massive heavy doors, able to take any kind of direct attack. Its even able to sustain itself for a prolonged period of time locked up with no access. Its amazing. :3

Honestly reading through the comments I find the biggest issue with all the other schools is that they were invented by one writer with her limited experience as a British woman and ultimately can't go into specifics on the other schools without them being inaccurate to the realities of the region for instance multiple languages for certain regions. Another issue is as one person she can only write so much so having at least a small writing team focusing on side content based around developing a canon of other smaller schools and expanding upon the magical world at large would probably be pretty cool (kinda like the Star Wars expanded universe/ Star Wars Legends series). Ya never know though things could potentially get better in terms of expanded lore with stuff like the video game Hogwarts Legacy coming since I can only imagine more writers (that are less controversial) are being given permission to expand on official canon. One thing in particular I'd like to see (as an American) would be a potential redesign of Ilvermorny to look more like an actual early American building rather than a castle cause a castle can only ever look like something from another country because America just doesn't have castles we have some gorgeous old buildings but no castles they could even take inspiration from some of the oldest schools in the country like Harvard, Penn, Yale, Dartmouth, Princeton, Columbia, etc imo that would be frickin awesome. Another thing I'd find cool would be if another school were added in America with how absolutely giant the country is and there could be a Canadian specific school that's like a sister school to Beauxbatons since there's a pretty large amount of French speakers in Canada in fact kinda surprised Canada hasn't already had a school made considering they share a monarchy with the UK. Another cool thing that could be explored in general would be sister schools that share a common language so witches and wizards could travel and visit somewhere similar but different. I dunno I just have a lot of thoughts on the subject.
@thisisaname822

Very true about the limit of Rowling part. I’m Chinese, studied and lived in the US for years, and then studied and worked in the UK for years. I was quite oblivious about how many different countries and cultures there are in Europe, because size wise the countries are quite compact. But then as I’m working in UK, I also feel like maybe British people don’t have a good sense of scales of countries. The company I work for produces kid products, and I’ve noticed some maps for kids sort of makes European look really big in comparison to other continents, and introduces really in detail about the differences in Europe, which makes total sense. But that does give an effect of seeing the differences and nuances in Europe, but not aware of the world perspective of that. So when it comes to making stories about other countries, it’s really easy to see that she addresses ‘ooo these are so different and there’s no way to put these together’ in Europe, while seeing other places as ‘hmm these look about the same, maybe they go together well’. On the other hand, though, I think these 11 might make real world sense actually, because whatever ‘international regulation’ in real life, very likely won’t be that international. The policies, criteria and regulations are going to be biased based on the country that ‘international’ thing was founded. So it’s also very likely this ‘great 11’ thing is just fond by British, as a sum of the information they can collect. The selecting process of ‘formal schools’ might not be applicable for many other countries, so their schools might not even bother to join. Not to mention the paradigm differences across the world. In Europe they might see it as wizard, while in China the ‘wizards’ might see themselves as ‘god communicators’ or even maybe just gods, and just won’t be joining the wizard thing (like maybe because there were never a witch hunt in China back in the history. Instead, even in the reality now in northern China, there are still people practicing superstitious things, and they are roughly respected and awed casually by people. And people also associate practicing Taoism vaguely with superstitious and usually with a respect attitude. And Taoism roughly is very naturalist, calm and peaceful. Wizards in China might just not really want to be together with combative British wizards. (and also in casual Chinese people’s daily religions, our relationships with gods sort of more similar to people and government. If we ask for rain and the rain god didn’t rain in Beijing’s traditional religion, we tie the god’s statue and burn the statue in front of its temple to punish the god for not doing its job properly😂. So it’s possible the wizards in China actually work as gods in China. Imagine a well established governing system, and it takes 30 wizards as a team to regulate the local weather. And they receive currencies as people burn scents. Sometimes they get tips when people burn more scents. And there would also be a team of 15 wizards running the dating and love department, where they have a developed sorting system to organize people’s daily love wishes, and regulate it so they can look into those cases and provide helps. Those systems might started when one witch met a muggle with dating problems. She wanted to help her, but didn’t want to show her superpower, so she prompted the muggle in her mind. Afterwards she felt a huge sense of accomplishment and felt it so rewarding. So she started her journey to help people, and gathered a group a wizards doing so with her on the go. Eventually this grew into something. The muggles also sense there’re something helping them, so started to leave food and money at designated places, and some business-minded wizards invented ways to turn this into an economic model. So wizards in China might just live in very different social systems and have very different social dynamics with muggles than the European wizards. They focused on so different things in magic that they just don’t find British wizard system apply to them.)

@@thisisaname822 This is exactly what I meant you have a very different perspective to what JK Rowling does because she isn't Chinese so she wouldn't be able to go into great detail of what the Chinese Wizarding system is like because she only has her experiences to work from. If there were many writers of different ethnicity and cultures they could combine their knowledge to expand upon the existing lore of the Wizarding world in a thoughtful and more importantly accurate way. I can just imagine all the interesting stories people could come up with based on their culture and experiences.

I find it odd that they would choose Japan over China for a wizarding school. Chinese folklore is filled with references of dragons and other mystical (if not magical) creatures that could easily be incorporated into the Wizarding World. Considering the Chinese civilization goes back as one of the first organized human cultures, you'd think it would make sense an ancient school would be there, and the fact that most of the surrounding Asian cultures take many elements from Chinese culture. The same goes with you'd think there would be a school in and around the cradle of the ancient world of Egypt, Rome, Greece or Babylon where there are many tales of magical creatures and beasts.

My head cannon is that there is a Chinese magic school. But they don’t communicate with the rest of them and live secluded in a sort of sect. Both times the Mongols try and invade Japan, massive storms wreck the entire fleet. Same with the Roman/Babylon one. The Library of Alexandria was probably an old wizard school that was destroyed, the Tower of Babel being a wizards school (thinking they knew more than god, at least in the eyes of the muggles living around the tower.). The Australian school is called snakebinder and is found in the southern mountains, protected by enchantments. It was founded by a British wizard who was a convict that came to Australia, he found other witches and wizards and taught the. He then made an actual school and died there. There us also a secret room told to hold many treasures and his ghost. Another ghost is of a married couple who help lost students find their classes. You can ski on certain weekends if it's not snowing.

As an Australian, assuming we are creating unofficial information, we should add Aboringinal culture as real creatures that are known to the Australian wizarding kind but are "stories told" to the normal observer. We could implement the protection of the school being in an Aboriginal protected land as they through my straight off the top of my head "Are knowledgeable of magic although not everyone of them are magical, they are accepting culture of magic and use their lands to protect the school" I think this would be a fun way of bringing Aboriginal folk lore into a magical world, from the rainbow serpent to the Yowie. Only after this British wizard who came as a convict recognised that these people seen magic but was untamed to them as they had no idea that it was special, thinking it nothing more than just what has always been. This Convict turned free man found a new refuge in teaching the Aboriginal people what it was they were dealing with. They then started a school as to teach the enlightened Aboriginals came from far and wide to harness their skills, again a very few numbers of which had magic. The culture just completely accepting of it, as more convicts arrived this ex convict British wizard would monitor those who arrived who displayed magical traits and offered them access to the school of Snakebinder. As the years passed and Australia grew independent the school was moved to an Aboriginal reserve one far from seeing eyes placed under a clock of invisibility and other magical defences, the school now thriving under tutelage of multiple experts grown from within the Australian magical sphere, and including a special class as scene no where else "Ancient Aboriginal Magic and the Beasts within" teaching future Australian Witches and Wizards the threats that exist unique to Australia and how to subdue and if necessary defeat them using passed down knowledge from the Ancient Aboriginal Witches and Wizards. I think that would be my take on this, living in Darwin and learning about Aboriginal stories of beasts that exist that are so fantastical and magical it would definitely suit the lore of a school down under. I don't know of any official Australian magic school, if its unofficial or has no information, I think the above would work magically in my opinion.

@@eamonlyons8069 Good questions, I have a small answer for the studentbody's nationalities one: Durmstrang might simply be open to students from far off lands, if he was telling the truth when Draco Malfoy said his father wanted him to attend Durmstrang, then it lends some credence to the idea, and Krum could have attended for the same reason, with his parents opting for a more martial or simply pureblood school. Besides, with the small population of scandinavia, it'd make sense for a wizarding school to take more international students to fill the classrooms.

I always feel a little disappointed when remembering there are so few recognized wizarding schools. I always liked the idea of many different wizarding schools. Even though there were only three named European (I am from Europe so I mainly focused on that continent) ones at the time, I always thought there were also Spanish, German or Italian schools, which were just not part of the triwizard tournament. But when it was stated that Durmstrang and Beauxbatons were just a personification of Eastern and Western Europe. I felt very sad (and a bit offended) that all other regions of the world were just lumped together.

I’m always so confused by Durmstrang as a Scandinavian. It’s always said to be in the far north of Europe which clearly is Scandinavia/the Nordics but it’s often connected to Bulgaria and I’ve seen it placed there on many maps, which is not northern Europe at all. The names of the students and the uniforms are also very Slavic rather than Norse, and Russia already has a school (not surprised though with JK’s history of cultural ignorance and stereotypes). I think it’d be cool to have a wizarding school up here, maybe in the Scandics, on Svalbard, some other island further south since we have so many or hidden by magic in an old fortress :)

I think it’s stated to be in northen Sweden or Norway and they way Krum described the location it sounds like a mix of the two. Also we only get Krums name and Kakaroff is just the headmaster at the time, so no all of the students and teachers there do not have slavic sounding names. The coat of arms feels german and quite a lot of the ones in Sweden also have Eagles and Griffins, so fairly accurate. I think some of the animals of the crest corresponds to ones found in a swedish one as well. Sure some more Scandinavian names and maybe norse magic could have been implemented, but I am glad she skipped ”viking themed” almost all together, that feels overdone, cliché and sterotypical. However the Durmstrang ship could be a nod to Nagelfar, the ship from norse mythology.

I’m surprised that they didn’t mention anything about a magic school in Hellas🇬🇷 even though in the magical world many creatures have their origin in our country and many wizards (particularly dark wizard) came from here… 🤷🏻‍♂️ I imagine our magical school to be named Ακαδημία Μαγείας «akadimía magías» = academy of Magic since the word Academy is Hellenic or school because this also comes form the term σχολείο/scholío which means school. It might be found on the top of Mount Olympus where the ancient Hellenes believed that no one could reach because it was the home of the Gods. Imagine it as a huge white marble palace with Hellenic architecture on the top of Olympus surrounded in clouds. The houses could be three, six or nine… those numbers are appearing very usually in Hellenic folklore, myths and traditions but six or nine Houses… a bit too much?! 12 (as the Olympian Gods) would also be an exaggeration… And I cannot imagine what traits the House of Aphrodite would have😏😏😁😁 If the Houses were four like Hogwarts they could be: *1. The House of Athéna* Wisdom, learning, courage *2. The House of Ares* Cunning, chivalry, ambition *3. The House of Apollo* Creativity, artistic nature, insight (Apollo was the god of light, music, arts and divination) *4. The house of Hestia* Hardworking, patience, perseverance Or, they could be named after mythological creatures of the Hellenic mythology: *1. House of Phoenix* *2. House of Centaur* *3. House of Basilisk* *4. House of Pegasus* The founder of the Academy could be Κίρκη/kírki = Circe, a famous witch from the Hellenic mythology, or perhaps Εκάτη/ekáti, the goddess Hecate, the goddess of witchcraft in our mythology. Even though we have many old dark wizards originated form our country (Ekrizdis, Herpo the foul) we could also have many wizards that they were good in philosophy> creating spells Medics > potions History > magical historians Politics > wizards helping to the International Statute of Wizarding Secrecy Inventors > pioneer magical inventions

魔法所→まほうところ→mahoutokoro MAH - hoe - toe - koh - roh In Japanese phoenetics, it is common for extended vowel sounds for "oh" (お) and "eh" (え) to resolve to "u" (う) and "i" (い) respectively. For example: Clock -> 時計 -> とけい -> to·ke·i :: The "i" at the end is semi-silent, as it is part of the "eh" sound of *ke*. Magic -> 魔法 -> まほう -> ma·ho·u :: The "u" at the end is semi-silent, as it is part of the "oh" sound of *ho*. As you can see, this causes some pronunciative confusion in transliteration under the Hepburn system. For now, just treat it as a long-form vowel "oh", and for authenticity, pull the back of the tongue back when sounding it. There's a reason the Asian monk saying "hoohhhhh" sounds so stereotypically Asian. It's a vowel form ubiquitous across east Asia.

The land has to be undeveloped, hence why Cairngorms NP is a good candidate (8 castles in "varying degrees of upkeep," with Loch an Eilein the only one "with waterfront property") 6. Statute of Secrecy was enacted in 1700. In recorded Muggle history, (cover story?) that year a dam around the lake was finished, raising the water level. 7. There's even talk of hidden passages under the castle- sound familiar?

Does anyone else find it odd that wands have to be registered in the US but are much less regulated in Europe? It's always seemed backward to the muggle world. The US has strict wand control laws but, in Europe, it is seems the right of wizards to keep and bear wands shall not be infringed.

If you consider the largest cities throughout history then you have to consider Constantinople (Istanbul), Rome, Alexandria, Indus Valley ( Northern India or Pakistan), China and Mali. If you look at places with a highly magical setting then Mt. Kailash (Tibet and source of the four greatest rivers in Asia), Mt. Kilimanjaro, Ethiopia, A number of sacred spots in Turkey and Greece, Taos NM USA, Ireland, Lake Baikal Russia, Mt Fuji, Ayer’s Rock or the Kimberly in Australia, Machu Pichu, (sp?) and many others. I don’t think it makes sense to have so many in Europe considering the relatively low population throughout history.

6 Schools eh, here's my other 5 headcanon school locations Sahara Desert (Middle East): Students fly using carpets since brooms are very rare. Oasis have hidden enchanted doors to the school grounds. Uluru, Ayers rock (Australia): As it's stated in the video. Students mostly come from Southeast Asian, Australia and New Zealand, the rock might as well be a hidden entrance to the school. Himalayas: For students from China, India, Pakistan. China fly to school with long dragons, Indians uses, and Pakistani uses Markhor to climb up mountains. Indian magics are affected based on which god they worship. Those who worship Shiva usually uses dark magic, for example. Bermuda: For students who lives in the pacific and Papua new guinea, students are very good divers, and their magic revolves around the sea. And finally, the Antarctica. The area that is hard to explore for humans: The headmaster is an immortal human who is known by muggles as Santa Claus. It's a school for elves, fae, and other sapient magical creatures.

As an Australian, I would hopefully go to the Aussie school. I believe it's probably somewhere on Australia’s east coast, so it's easier for the New Zealand students to get to as well. It would have been originally formed between Aboriginal and Maori New Zealanders to attend, but as Australia is the larger country, it would be easier to find somewhere to hide it. Later on once white-man arrived, and all the crap died down between the invaders and indigenous groups of both counties, the would have started to include witches and wizards from non-indigenous families. How long after the fighting stopped though would be up for debate.

I like to imagine there are 2 campuses for the Australian Wizarding school, one somewhere around Uluru, the other around the Australian Defence Force Academy. Aboriginal tribes from around Uluru have been teaching their children magic for as long as they have existed, they believed Uluru was the source of their magic and therefore see it as sacred, other tribes feared magic, and exiled those who could preform magic, from there a white kangaroo would show them the way to safety, as most show magic from a young age they would follow the kangaroo as young children are inquisitive. When the British came to Australia, a wizard discovered the magical tribes in central Australia and helped establish the wizarding school of Uluru, This campus is for younger students, although it in not necessary and is small, since the Australian Ministry of Magic believes all students should have a muggle education, this teaches young wizards and witches about spirituality and traditional Australian magic. The uniform is light blue, and looks like a simple muggle school uniform, yet there is a blue overcoat for formal occasions. The second campus focuses on defensive, offensive, and European magic, also partnering with ADFA, this campus mainly has adults as a student body, and has a blue, military style uniform.

For the 2 remaining schools, I have some ideas. 1. For the first school, there needs to be a school either in the Himalayas or the Gobi Desert that accepts students from all over Asia. There are over 2 billion people in Asia, and likely over 100 million Witches and Wizards. There can’t be 2 schools in Asia that only accept people from their own countries, that’s gonna be a massive problem, even if homeschooling young witches and wizards is popular in Asia. 2. Here I’m gonna say that a school in The Middle East would be nice, or a school around the Sinai Peninsula. Not every student going to a wizarding school can travel to the other African school, as Africa is massive.

I know that there was explanation given for the number, but I feel that there's plenty of Countries that would definitely have one. Like; China- With a history stretching from the Bronze Age Great Xia Dynasty to the many consecutive Kingdoms, Empires, Philosophers, Scholars, and Inventors, it's extremely unlikely that would not have a school or Sect. Specially considering their modern day practices of national self focus. India- Much like China, it has existed since the Bronze Age in one way or another and like China it has an extremely dense population that would probably produce many magical children. Plus being a country of such deep religious history, how could it not have a magical institution. Greece- When thinking about Magical Creatures, chances are that at least half of them would be Greek in origin. The birthplace of Occidental Philosophy, Literature, Politics, and Law it's an appropriate spot for a Wizarding School. Although, other Mediterranean locations could work as well like Italy or Cypress. Egypt- Another Bronze Age powerhouse its monuments have withstood the test of time and are still Wonders of the World. A school inside a Pyramid would be extremely interesting. That said, I could also see it as a place that used to have a school in the past. Somewhere in the Middle East- Either an Arabian or Persian school could make sense. Specially since the region has always served as a strategic center of trade, culture, and science. Though the relative instability of the region might not permit a school to form.

And the founder she was from Eastern Europe, why start a school so long away from where she came from? And a thing I also don’t understand is. The language barrier, if students are from so many countries. Are there any charms that translate any thing said so a Norwegian student can understand an Albanian student? You don't need a wand, it's rather a tool, physical instrument to help tune the physical and mental. But once you have been well taught the wand is like a placebo you take to heal. The power to heal was always within you, but you needed the placebo to convince yourself to preform the healing. Once you realize this energy is abundant and within us all you find little need for the wand or placebo. It was just a tool or guide to show you how powerful you can truly be when you take enough accountability and believe in your own natural gifts/abilities.
