Gout actually saved my friend's life. He had severe alcoholism and started having different kind of diseases over it. He dismissed them all but Gout was so painful he couldnt ignore it or mask the pain by drinking it away. Just so those are aware, a ketogenic diet, one that is rather high in meat, is a modern day treatment for gout. Gout is more of an obese alcoholic's disease than about meat consumption, as eating large quantities of meat alone cannot cause gout in and of itself, but alcohol consumption can increase uric acid levels which when combined with a high protein diet (meat or otherwise) in obese people. If you simply eat a lot of meat, refrain from alcohol, or just keep yourself at a healthy weight with normal physical activity, you won't get gout. If you don't drink water at all in favor of exclusively large amounts of wine, combine that with high protein, don't exercise, and become obese, you're likely to get gout.

I used to suffer chronic gout. It started in my early 30's and in the end it was rampant. It used to alternate between my big toes and was basically increased to happening fortnightly. I beat it though. I completely deleted refined sugar from my diet. At first it was hard not eating chocolate, drinking fizzy drinks, no ice-cream, no biscuits and definitely no lollies (candy) At first my gout went absolutely crazy, longer and more intense episodes but gradually it began to settle down. I am now 46 and I haven't had a gout attack for 6 years or more. I still enjoy my meaty meals and I still drink as much beer as I like. Dumping refined sugar worked a treat for me. He stopped eating red meat, shell fish of any kind, spicy foods, etc and etc.. He suffered from 17 yrs of age until his death at 44. All the medicines combined with all the gout that attacked his entire body, shut his kidneys, killed his liver, spleen and pancreas. So after losing most of his toes and barely being able to walk, most of his life was spent in the most God awful pain anyone should have to endure. I do not find it comical at all that anyone would call this disease a rich mans disease. He was far from rich and nothing fun or funny came of his suffering. I first learned about Gout from an episode of Everybody Hates Chris where Julius (the dad) got gout and they did a hilarious cutaway where a doctor explains the gout and he talks about the kinds of food that can cause it. Then they show Julius eating the food and every time he’s like “Needs some salt.” At the end the doctor says to him “What’s the matter with you?!” 😂

I used to have chronic gout that would alternate between big toes and occasionally an ankle. It was so debilitating but I beat it. I completely gave up refined sugar. It wasn't easy at first but I'm so much better off the sugar and I've been gout free for over six years now. It took a while to settle down (at least a year) but it worked. I can still drink as much beer as I like and eat whatever I want (except refined sugar) hopefully this helps someone. It certainly fixed me up.

If you mix Black Cherry juice with water it will stop a gout flare up over night. Not Ocean Spray juice cocktail but real Black Cherry juice, most stores have it now. I take a water bottle and mix almost 50/50 and drink 2 or 3 of them throughout the day depending on how bad the pain is or sometimes even if my toe starts to get stiff just in case it is a gout flare up. Make sure you are close to a bathroom because you will pee for 2 days but the pain will be gone quick. By itself the stuff is pretty bad, almost syrup. But with water you can chug a whole bottle and its sweet like cranberry juice. I haven't been to the ER or the doctor in 5 years thanks to an old lady from my mom's church who told me about this, I am forever grateful.

I developed Gout in my wrist back in 1974. It was blamed on my habit of eating a pickled pig's foot when I worked night shift, we had a local bar that sold that wonder and I availed myself of it as a supper meal at 2:00 AM when the bar closed. After being diagnosed and put on medicine to help with the disorder I continued my midnight hog feed till I moved to another city and joined their PD. I visited an old German doctor who had served in WWII with the SS, he had a picture of himself in the SS Uniform in his office and always drove a classic Mercedes. He talked with me at great length and told me to stop the pigs feet. After six months off the hogs feet, my gout stopped and I was taken off the meds. I have now gone over 50 years without a pigs foot and without gout. I would thank the old doc but he passed on many decades ago.

I have had ankle gout in both ankles (never at the same time though, my god. . .) a total of 4 times and I can tell you it is worse than kidney stones. During flare ups, my entire foot was visibly swollen and the pain lasted for 10-16 hours at a time. It was unmitigated, burning agony. Nothing stopped the pain and even slight movements were excruciating. I couldn't even fall asleep for how agonizing it was. Over-the-counter NSAIDs didn't help. And even when the consistent pain subsided for brief, merciful hours, any amount of movement or even a slight touch was enough to make a grown man cry (because it did). Each flareup lasted about a week and a half. After deciding enough was enough (and after finally learning that the affliction was, infact gout), I discovered the biggest offender of gout flareups was corn syrup, both normal and especially high-fructose. I completely eliminated these from my diet as well as limiting my intake of red meats such as beef and I'm now 2 years gout-free and I haven't had a flareup since. Knock on wood.

When I was 30 I was drinking heavily and eating horribly. Weighed less than 140 but still gave myself a terrifyingly painful case of gout. The pain coming from my toe was horrific. Changed my habits that week. Took a damn week to feel better.

Yeah it sucks, it’s like having your big toe joint getting smacked with a hammer and I haven’t had a gout flare up in years and I’m only in my thirties, so good diet and activity helps keep it away

Exactly how I felt watching this video. Especially since I’m pretty sure my mom had it, and I eat a lot of meat. Fuck, I’m gonna get a salad for tonight and not eat meat for a week. 😭

@@halcyondays4922 Wine, especially red wine, is NOT a trigger for gout. As a matter of fact some believe that the anthrocyanins in red wine help prevent gout. The REAL culprits are yeasty things, including beer, and also shellfish.

nanoRat I heard that wine is bad for your liver, so I’ll just not. Idk if that’s true, but it’s better to be cautious, right?

I was already upset because my mom had gout once. Then he drops the bombshell that it runs in families! NO NO NO I don't drink a lot or eat a lot of meat but genetics already isn't my friend

Going through this right now. I don’t drink alcohol or eat that much meat. However, I have been drinking energy drinks since I was 15 and I’m 33 now. This is the first time I’ve ever gotten gout and I imagine it’s because I’ve been drinking a bunch of red bulls everyday for the last few weeks. Treating my body like a trash can has finally caught up with me. It always catches up to everybody. Be healthy, folks.

This is likely these days a more likely cause, too much sugar intake and not enough balanced nutrition intake, as it does a number on the acid balance of your blood. A younger friend of mine addicted to lots of sugar and caffeine, a gamer, quickly changed shape with a heavy addiction to such things, and I’ve not seen him in several years. I wonder if he’s managed to kill himself with his malnutrition and is severely diabetic by now, as that’s another thing you’ll need to work to avoid.

About a decade ago--in my mid-fifties--I developed a tendency toward gout, which felt like someone dropping a bowling ball on my toe--for three straight days! Lost a lot of sleep. I got aggressive and cut all red meat, organ meat and shellfish out of my diet. My last attack happened when my sister-in-law tried to do me a favor by buying chicken frankfurters. A severe attack caused me to discover that even though the meat of the franks was chicken, the casings were still cow intestines--like for all other franks; and the label carried no warning. That was the end of that; my diet was greatly curtailed but my toe has been mercifully pain-free.

Drink lemon juice (squeeze the lemon from market, not any bottled juice) with normal temperature water everyday. Gout will go away.

Tart cherries also help remove uric acid from your system. And avoid leaded glass and pewter, especially when drinking alcohol, the dissolved lead greatly aggravates gout. (This is why the rich had so much gout in the past... the poor could not afford to store alcohol in pewter or leaded glass - crystal - bottles.)

Ha! I got it relatively young while I was in really good shape (thought it was bone spurs). One of my buddies said “ha ha you have a fat old man disease “ - he gets it really bad now. Same with another buddy who would call me “old gout foot” - he was on crutches all last summer. Ask not for whom the gout tolls...
