Very nice Video as usual. Love to watch. But you have a little mistake built in the part for Kevlar. Woven Kevlar is easily penetrated by a sharp point like a knife, so are bulletproof vest not stapproof. Kevlar stops bullet or other object with very hight tension strenght. So a "soft" bullet deforms and catches several strains of fibre and pulls at them. That will absorb more an more energy until its stops, more like a net. Sry for english mistakes, not native.

Great explanation - informative and entertaining. But there's just one factual doubt - I've heard that the reason drivers wore white cloth on their head in the 1930, 20s and before was to give an indication of whether they had a bleeding wound on their head following an accident. If there was bleeding, the white cloth would clearly show that.

My main concern with modern helmets is peripheral vision, which seems to have been ignored. Could a helmet with a central support and a wider aperture provide the same strength and improve peripheral vision?
@darklorddylan13166 жыл бұрын
Jist my opinion. Feel free to disagree. But, the center would have to sit very close to the face (or be thin to the point of uselssness.) to not cause problems with vision. The concern about it coming to close to your face is safety. It's meant to deform to take up some of the impact and if your face is millimeters from the eyes shield it can't do its job as well. The could probably make the eyeport wider and still maintain the same general level of safety without adding a center support but I feel like they designed it to be as wide as it needs to be. Remember. The new regs came from a 10 year study of helmet technology.

Peripheral vision is fine. A thing that gets in the way a lot more than the visors width is the massive side pods on the cars. Regardless, no-one really complains about not being able to see around them (other than probably Sergio 'tunnel vision' Perez after that shocking race).

Great video, but it serves to display the difference between the introduction of the halo and the helmet, and the fallacy of comparing the two. The helmet is a genuine innovation that has always existed in some form in Formula 1 and evolved with increasing technology. The halo is not. It could’ve been introduced far earlier into the sport but wasn’t because it goes against what is considered a Grand Prix car. Hence the introduction of stiffer monocoques, safer side head protection and wheel tethers at times when the halo could’ve been imposed. The halo is a lazy cheat to avoid/circumvent the brilliant innovations that have enabled the sport to be faster/lighter/safer without the need to destroy its integrity. The latest development in helmet technology only further highlights what true innovation is and why the halo is causing more damage to Formula 1 than it seeks to protect drivers from. Cheers for the video☺️
@Loktoren6 жыл бұрын
No matter how much you innovate, a simple option is usually best. Making the cockpit design safer and adding wheel tethers are great, but they dont stop a car from flipping into another cars cockpit severely injuring a driver. Yes that may be a rare occurence, but they are trying to help minimize the risk if it were to happen.
@Jackbyrne776 жыл бұрын
Loktoren cheers for the reply mate, always happy to discuss. I understand people want to reduce the risk, but if that reduction of risk comes at the cost of the identity of the sport where does it end?? If you like motor racing but you don’t like the risk, shouldn’t those people go and watch touring car racing? If you’re end goal is to remove every possible risk from @f1 aren’t you by definition, advocating for a motor sport that is not Formula 1?? To me people supporting the halo are doing that whether they are aware of it or not. There is historical precedent to say why the halo wasn’t introduced in the past and there’s a clear argument for why it should not be in the sport now. It simply goes too far, and the sport will only suffer as a result. But again though I appreciate your comment mate. I guess my question in response to your comment would be “at what point do you say that the solution to any identifiable risk is too far? Where would you draw the line?” Cheers mate👍👍
@Loktoren6 жыл бұрын
@@Jackbyrne77 Its not about removing all of the risk, but making sure that drivers can walk away from a crash and go home to their families. They are racing cars, this isn't something that's a life or death matter. The risk makes it fun, but it shouldn't hold a higher place than driver safety. The more drivers die, the less people will want to continue. F1 started in an era where safety was always an after thought. It cant continue like that.
