No disrespect to Constantine XI, he went down befitting of an Emperor. Even though he had the chance he didn't surrender, nor flee or retreat. Instead fought and died on the battlefield, to the bitter end. By this action he did right by the Empire and left an everlasting glorious and heavy legacy to all future generations.

He saved the empire from a rebellion, he held off the Persians, reformed Western law, reconquered North Africa, Italy, Illyria, and a bit of Spain, plus a ton of important islands like Sicily and Sardinia, he helped found the European silk industry (raw silk and spun cloth, not just the latter), and built the Hagia Sophia, the largest church for about 900 years. Which is now a mosque, but even as that, his building still influenced mosque architecture, showing how even non-Christians still are impacted by him. Mosquitecture.

"Some who have been in Justinian’s company in the palace very late at night, men with a clear conscience, have thought that in his place they have beheld a strange and devilish form. One of them said that Justinian suddenly arose from his royal throne and walked about(although, indeed, he never could sit still for long), and that at that moment his head disappeared, while the rest of his body still seemed to move to and fro. The man who beheld this stood trembling and troubled in mind, not knowing how to believe his eyes. Afterwards the head joined the body again, and united itself to the parts from which it had so strangely been severed." - Procopius

One of the best Emperors without a doubt. His admin withstood the plague and ice age and most of his gains held until phocus and the Arabs. Belasarius and Justinian were clearly on side and was not mistreated. He was recalled because a popular alternative can create discontent... he was dealing with plague and the rest, people need something to plague thus Bel would have agreed this is the best move. He never turned on Justinian who wouldn't have trusted him with an army decades later. The mural in Ravenna shows them together. There's nothing to question their lifelong positive relationships
