I've eaten a lot of bread from from all over the world. Some are good, others are bad but King's Hawaiian bread is hands down the best bread I have ever eaten. There are others who claims to be Hawaiian bread but they are not even close to the taste and texture of this wonderful bread. I never pass up a chance to buy it whenever I'm at the grocery store.

1:37 this was the location of the King’s Bakery diner in Honolulu. As of this month that place is being redeveloped. I don’t know who the new tenant or tenants will be. 🤞

We LOVE LOVE LOVE 'Kings Hawaiian' bread/rolls! They remind me of a sweet, Greek Easter bread called 'Tsoureki' that my grandmother used to bake for our family many years ago! I've even gone as far as to jokingly say that "there must be crack in this bread", since I usually can't just only eat one or two in one sitting!

Nice post! In Greece, this bread is called 'Tsoureki', which is an old school Easter bread with eggs placed on top as well! My guess is that this recipe had it's own different (but similar in ways) versions throughout Europe, over the centuries.

i agree, born and raised and living in Hawaii... i feel the name was commercialized and wrongfully re-titled and known as 'Hawaiian Sweet Bread', when we who live in Hawaii KNOW and call it Portuguese Sweet Bread. I hate it when people from the mainland and other areas of the world call it Hawaiian Sweet Bread.

@@hawaiiguy1 It's NOT exclusively Portuguese! This sweet bread, even in small 'roll form', had different recipes and versions throughout much of Europe and The Middle East, going back centuries! Hawaii, nor Portugal, can claim it 'as their own'. So if Hawaii wants to call it 'Hawaiian bread' for marketing purposes, they're not taking it from Portugal only.

@@hawaiiguy1 I see your point. But sweet bread, in general as I mentioned, has been around a long long time, in many countries, so 'Kings Hawaiian' would never lose in court. The recipe is so universal, and with so many variations, no country can really claim it as their own. Not even Portugal. It's a non-issue, really.

That bread looks like Pan De Leche, a national bread in the Philippines. His family doesn't look Portuguese at all .
