It's so weird that Kamek was important enough to be the 8th racer in Mario Kart 64 at one point and yet they have never added him in any future game despite many seemingly more random newcomers being put in. You'd think a character that important at one point would be a prime candidate the next time new characters are needed. I do really hope he gets added one day, because I love me some Kamek / Magikoopa and the random Mario enemies are always my favorite characters in Mario Kart due to the novelty of being able to play as characters that are normally just enemies or obstacles. Though with Nintendo seemingly moving further towards Nintendo Kart or just generally focusing more on cameo characters I fear the time for him to appear may have come and gone.

Well I think you nailed it when you said originally it was approached at being called "Mario Kart". They looked at the character list and said "Who can we put in here as 8 characters that all relate towards being in Mario games, or have some sort of relationship with Mario". Since then with newer kart games they have moved away from that being the case. You are absolutely right in saying that it's turning into "Nintendo" Kart. Not necessarily a bad thing, but I'm hopeful kamek will show up. He was big in a lot of the Snes titles, and now hes getting the spotlight on him again with the upcoming movie. Fingers crossed.

Kamek appearing would've made since because he was a pretty major character in Yoshi's Island, which released the previous year, come to think of it, Diddy Kong would've been a great addition, additionally 10 playable characters sounds more satisfying than 8.

I'd love to see more content like this, even if it's more time-consuming to make. If I may make a suggestion, I would recommend cutting back on the review content on your channel, assuming you want to be favored by the algorithm. Reviews of games that are multiple decades old aren't going to have any consistent appeal because, generally, people watch reviews to determine if they want to buy a game, and most people aren't buying N64 games nowadays, especially ones they've never played before. Anyway, I'm only saying that as a new subscriber who would love to see more content from you. Have a great day

Thank you for your feedback, the channel has been slowly pivoting towards more intensive content. I have been trying a variety of different styles to see what people are interested in. It's not super easy to figure it all out. The most positive feedback has been from the more documentary-style approach to content, which I have taken on board. It's significantly more time consuming to do as the way it needs to be researched/written/composed/edited has to make complete sense in a story board format. But I'm sure I'll figure out a better workflow over time for it. That being said, there are some interesting videos in the pipeline and I hope to setup playlist to make the content very easy for people to sort through on the channel, to find the videos they want to watch.

I agree. It would be cool to see Kamek in the Switch online version as a bonus the way they give bonus versions of NES games on the service. Great video also. A ton of information I didn't know.

@@NightcapsAndNostalgia Yeah there was code that MK8 had kamek icons in it. I plan to eventually dig into more for a different video. Glad you enjoyed it. Hopefully a new mario kart is coming soon, been itching for something fresh for a while.

Thank you, The reviews are slightly a different format. I try to get them out in shorter videos so people can get a good understanding of what the game is just by watching a few minutes. I have some other videos in the works that are similar to this though. There's some new formats that will be longer documentary style coming, but they take a very long time to produce, so it won't be as often. Thanks again for the compliments and the subscription!

I’m so so so upset how Kamek got cut from Mario Kart 64. I personally like him a lot more then DK (not that I hate him) plus he would’ve been such a unique character in the Roster and probably would’ve been a series regular too. And he didn’t even make his debut in DD or DS or even Wii or 7 either… honestly Kamek is so underrated and needs to be playable more.

Fun fact, the racers aren’t actually rendered in 3D due to the small amount of available space on the cartridge that the developers had to work with and this game being a launch title thus they didn’t have the accumulated knowledge that Rare and other developers would have been privy to when they made their own equivalents to Mario Kart 64 years later, hence why they’re actually a bunch of 2D sprites being rendered in a 3D environment.

I have no idea who you are and why your video was shown to me, since you only have 4 subs. I gotta say its a really well done video! You have a good voice too. The only thing i would change is your pauses. You pause waaay too much and waaay too long. It makes listening really annoying. But if you change that and keep the quality of the videos, im sure your channel will grow a lot and quickly. good luck with that :)

I really wish the feather had been kept at least for battle mode, though it made sense that they cut it from the racing modes. Not that it stopped me from finding workarounds for shortcuts anyway. :-)

Yeah I think the feather probably would have broken too many maps. But I do agree, imagine being able to hope over gaps in battle mode and cutting off red shells from tracking you down. Would really allow for some deep play.
