The History Of osu!'s Ranking System

Osu!’s ranking system is pretty simple. You need to get PP (otherwise known as performance points) to gain rank. These points are accumulated through playing ranked beatmaps, and the harder the map the more you will get. Well… that’s what the game wants you to think because throughout the game's history there have been numerous reworks to prevent people from abusing the system and gaining more than they should be, an issue that is still prevalent to this day. So let’s look at the evolution of osu!’s ranking system, every single important PP rework, and how the meta has changed over 17 years.

Good video, but you should've mentioned the watercolour case, even though it's technically not because of a PP rework but a star rating based bug, it impacted the pp as much as zan'ei did. Still good video.

After seeing all these changes summarized, i would say that the upcomimg combo scale removal is the biggest rework since ppv2 was introduced. After CSR osu!, will no longer be a combo game, which would be in my eyes something worth being called ppv3

dont blame the system, there is no perfect system in this universe, instead maybe try to reflect on yourself no hate there, but as I said, the ranking system isn't perfect and likely won't ever be, so enjoy the game instead of focusing too much on the ranking system

Idk if its just me, but I feel like the pp count on a profile has just become an arbitrary number. Personally, when I look at top plays made with farm maps I just don't even bother checking them. The pp plays made on actual hard maps might be few and far between too
