I started in late 80's with a two channel futaba radio with s128 servos. The rx battery was a cradle for 4 AA batts. I think back then there were like 28 frequencies in 72mhz band. In early 90's they doubled that to like 56 channels. Then I got the four channel futaba attack radio followed by airtronics vanguard 6ch radio with dual rates. Then I got my flagship futaba 8U heli radio and I still fly it to this day but it's converted to frsky 2.4ghz system. That radio does everything and I haven't had a need to use anything else. It must have been amazing to go from free flight/escapement to full proportional radio control. I know there was a latency in servos and transmission of signal. They worked on it to get it to minimum. So while it would be cool to go back to the early days of radio control, they still had issues to be worked out that lasted till today.

From Wiki on "Radio Control": In 1898, at an exhibition at Madison Square Garden, Nikola Tesla demonstrated a small unmanned boat that used a coherer based radio control. There were also numerous other radio control systems before 1937.

I betcha NIghtFlyer Dave Herbert is gonna look on this fondly... Did a lot of great work for Kraft and ran the Blue Thunder models for hollywood.
