Previous desolate lands dev here. For some context, the lead dev was a friend of mine for years that I met from rotmg private servers. I followed his progress on desolate lands for a while and eventually got super interested and joined him in programming it. Unfortunately we had many conflicts throughout the team and he kicked us out, blocking everything from us and a week later completely vanished from the internet. No clue where he is now, quite unfortunate that this happened.

Steambirds Alliance is to this day one of my favorite Games to have ever released. The Variety of all the Classes with the Pilot Skill Tree was just amazing! The Crafting System made it so that most of the Unique Items could be upgraded further, making it quite a grind to make some of the worst weapons upgrade to absolute beasts. The Monetization was definetly something that they should've toned down, but it also had some unique things to it. It was kind of like Warframe's monetization where you could spend money and trade that money to other players for items, which made "whaling" an actual option. But in the end, getting those good drops and maxing your plane was definetly a big challenge, and i'd say most of the steam reviews were definetly having skill issue. But in the end with the last couple Updates, like removing the Permadetah and removing the Open-World for a Mission based style gameplay was the absolute killer for the game. May SBA rest in Peace

Really hoping the og SBA comes back one day, though i realize just how ridiculously unlikely that is as it was quite niche among a already niche genre so getting a healthy playerbase would be close to impossible

Holy shit SA was so awesome. And then they scrapped all servers but US. And removed the massive world. And yeah... I even collected enough feathers solo to be one of the three people who could make a guild a bit before anyone else could. No lifed the shit out of that game It was so good. RIP

Steambird's and Starbreak's delayed nexus gave me crippling anxiety that I will never recover from.

I had over 1k hours on Starbreak and it’s an amazing game. There is a modding community for it now and the game averages about 30 steam players at a time. I can’t believe that they stopped developing it because there was a lot of potential there. There is a lot a skill required to solo the hardest bosses and the movement is super fluid for it being a platformer.

Yea there was a while where I was on/off with the game but I never got good enough to do the better dungeons. Defs takes a lot of skill

@@DeeManGamez If there was just more content I can see the game thriving. Star Cathedral opens about once a day and the servers fill up around 15 minutes before it pops. The current end game is just hope you get good drops from sc boss and if you don’t you just wait a day and try again. People only run the normal dungeons to get keys to donate for star cathedral. It’s rare to find runs purely for exotics like soids and quicksteps.

yep starbreak is really fun. and im ashamed to say that i have over 4k on that game in 2 years. and then i realized theirs a player that have over 20k hour on the game.

F for desolate lands. I would have loved so much to see a realm like that has more of the feel of runescape with a proper world and destinations to explore. Plus more to the game than just autofiring and pressing space.

Enjoyable and quite informative. I did know of most of these, though grid12 and GAS were new to me. I did have fun with Survived By during the alpha, but when they moved to early access, it felt different, and it felt like it had less charm. I truly hope this genre gets more competition. I'm curious if you've ever thought about doing like a history of the pservers at some point, as they are also fairly important to the creation of some of these games (BTN and Darza's specifically).

​@@sebchoof Mainly I remember seeing a few members of the OG darza team from my time playing the old pservers. Maybe influence was the wrong word, but it I feel like it has *some* connection at least. The pservers definitely were a vital part of the RotMG's history for sure.

can confirm that steambirds reviewers are suffering from skill issue. steambirds alliance actually let you trade gold, which although made the game more pay to win, also made the game significantly more f2p friendly because you could trade potion equivalents for gold. monetization also was hardly different from realm. all you could buy was character slots, vault space and cosmetics.

darzas needs some more variety in boss movement/ shot patterns, almost every boss I've seen in clips of that game stands still in the middle of a circular room and has phases with a spiral pattern

Rip Grid12. Was such a neat game. I had a few 16/16 Pulchritudinous tanks. Funnily enough, my two favorites were Phantom and Trailblazer. I was also a prominent player of Steambirbs. Bought a few of the skins, and nearly maxed out my Shieldmaiden and Duster. Btw, Meowza was female.

The only one of those games i haven't played is Grid12 (and the GAS one) i loved all the one i played, they all had so much potential, my favorites were definetly TOT and Survived By (Desolate Lands as well) very fun and creative aspects sad to see none of them really worked out.

i want a realm like like poe, i really love poe but somehow it doesnt feel challenging enough. most stuff you cant really dodge because you have no idea whats going on and dying isnt that bad. i really think the build your own character like poe would fit a realm like as you are creating your own character so it feels way more impactfull if you die with it but maybe thats also a bad thing

Hiya! I'm one the biggest KZbinrs who still spends his time playing Starbreak. I've played it for many years now (5 years) and I still play it despite its dead status with all its lack of updates and involvement of developers, mainly because the game is one-of-a-kind and a treasure I cannot find anywhere else. The game is certainly very boring to play considering how limited the game contents are, and that I've played for a very long time, but I do it for the nostalgia as well as to take pleasure in my involvement with the community :)

this is a repost BUT a few weeks, probably a month ago I found what looked like a korean realmlike on steam, probably on announcing or something, art style wasn't pixelated, but 2D more detailed style (Looked a lot like Survived By and Desolate Lands), there were mounts, a MASSIVE city nexus and npcs who looked nice, there was even a big booba priestess class and I REALLY can't find it again, did anyone else come across something similar or know the name if anything?
