Man, I still miss this ride. And was there ever a more 80s name for a roller coaster than "SkyRider"?

I remember Skyrider's debut in 1985, I think it was the first year that I got a seasons pass. I still have the 1985 park guide/book thing. They had these Foreign Legion style Skyrider hats back then. They were made out of light stock and were only about $4 so a great number of them circulated and found their way to the school yard, it was the mullet of hats - a hat with a mullet! So happy to have lived within a local distance of both SkyRider in the 80s and King Cobra in the 90s. I always enjoyed riding both of these Togo legends. Defunct parks aside, these were the only 2 parks to ever be a short distance from my house and the Togo standups were my favorite ones as a kid. I have always noticed the similarities between Togo and Schwarzkopf tracks. I think I always liked Togo because it always reminded me of Schwarzkopf and to this day I think Schwarzkopf is my favorite manufacturer based on thrill-adrenaline and G forces experienced. I never quite got the same satisfaction out of Vekoma or Aero Dynamics with similar looping-themed track circuits. German and Japanese engineering is top notch. Their machines were some of the best ever built. Japanese electronics from the 1970s and 80s are still functional today, maintenance is limited and products of the golden age of electronics outlive all of the disposable junk that circulates the commercial marketplace today. These days a coaster like Skyrider can't generate the hourly capacities of a modern B&M and become obsolete for only that reason. Outsourcing for replacement parts is always a spike into the side of the bottom line. I hate that nobody was able to rescue King Cobra from the King's Island morigue. Atleast SkyRider found a new home as well as a fresh paint scheme. The trick-track section of SkyRider was the only discrepancy when sided up with King Cobra. Not sure who's idea it was to add that, probably the same jackass who thought the double helix was a good idea. Like the narrator explained, it looked great as a pedestrian but riders hated it. A stand-up Togo designed as an airtime coaster would have been a good idea. No helix or gimmick but just an out and back speed flyer would have been great, or a Doppel/Olympia/Chimera/Minebender style divebomber idea. RIP Togo, I hope all of their remaining coasters get the TLC they deserve. I hate to see Togo or Schwarzkopf go to scrap. I greatly appreciate this video about Skyrider.

I remember this ride. I never went on it cause I was too scared. I kind of regret it now. Yukon Striker is a complete badass ride and a great fit. I'm glad that Skyrider found a new home instead of being scapped.Thanks for this.

Skyrider rode last day was amazing until the end... Miss that ride

I learned the hard way to squat down when the crotch restraint would rise up whenever I rode Skyrider, or Mantis.. this would "trick" the lock restraint to lock in place a good inch lower, providing a much more comfortable ride, and still just as safe.. I didn't realize Skyrider was relocated, that surprised me!

Cavallino Matto is the name of the amusement park, located in Tuscany. The roller coaster was renamed Freestyle

Great video! I miss SkyRider, but I'm so glad it's enjoying its retirement in Tuscany! Have you had a chance to ride it as Freestyle? I went on a pilgrimage to visit it in 2016 and heard some interesting stories about its relocation from the owner of Cavallino Matto, Mr. Manfredi and his family during my visit. I hope to visit the park again, it was such a great trip!

I'd have to say that Freestyle is at the tops of my already rode credits bucket list , haha! I really hope to get there sooner rather than later.

Great video! The audio in certain parts could’ve been modified, but I enjoyed it nonetheless! I never knew that Yukon Striker payed tribute to such a ride like Skyrider. Very cool history for a unique coaster!

I always loved skyrider. You did have to know how to set up your seat or it would hurt.
@junkbox_ Жыл бұрын
I always set it up in a way where I could tuck my knees up under my chin as we went down the first drop hill. Me and my friends would hold that position until somewhere in between entering the helix and exiting the helix. You couldn't literally tuck your knees under your chin because of the harness but you know what I mean. We always wondered what it would take to stretch and break those 4 bolts. I think there were 4, but however many, they were put the stress test every single time we rode it - sometimes 5-6 times per visit if it was during the week and the park wasn't busy.

Another cool history video. I believe I've said this before but I'm always fascinated with the history of Canada's Wonderland. I don't know if you're already planning to cover this at some point but can I suggest Orbiter?
