This could really get more views, it is a nice explanation of the history of Berlin's U-Bahn network. Today the newest station Museumsinsel is opened on the U5 line. And the S-Bahn has a lot of interesting history as well!

It's great to hear you enjoyed the video Martin and thank you for the comment!. It was certainly very interesting to make and learn about the system, so will be a lot more appreciative when I go back to Berlin and look forward to riding the new section of the U5 some day. I've heard things about the S Bahn too, especially it's use during the Cold War so perhaps could look into it further into the future.

Agreed, came here after my flatmate (we live next to Uhlandstraße) told of the initial controversies. Also, the new station is gorgeous - just wish it had more seating !

Kind of shocking that "Mustache Man" didn't do anything with the Ubahn, considering how much his party loved massive public works projects and their competition with the commies, you would think he would have wanted a system to compete with Stalins amazing Metro system in Moscow...

There’s a couple or errors here. First, the main reason why the U-Bahn dives underground after Nollendorfplatz (not Zoologischer Garten) has less to do with sewers than with Charlottenburg’s (then an independent city) resistance against elevated railways. Moreover, the East side of the city was never rich - generally speaker Berlin gets richer the more you move west. The area around Stalauer Tor was decidedly proletarian, and further to the east even more so.

Initially they built it elevated and overground, but some of the places said, they should bury these plans. Instead this, they burried the tracks. Today's underground line 2 is the best example. Pankow said "we cannot stand to see elevated trains", so the station Vinetastrasse is like Vineta deep down. Prenzlauer Berg has no problem, Kreuzberg the same, they are called by mountains. Mitte required not to look like Chicago Downtown, so subway. Charlottenburg prefered to hide the trains, Spandau hasn't any problem with overground.

This is mostly a brief history of Berlin, not so much U-Bahn. Your German pronunciations are also a bit weird - only about half are German, and the rest - English.
