It's interesting to see how the names and the logos of this airport have evolved over the years. I really didn't know all the facts stated in this video. Thank you so much for this informative video.

Once more a very interesting clip. By the way, when you search for "Springbok in the sky" here on KZbin, you will find a coulple of interesting films about the history of air travel in South Africa.

You make some very interesting and well done videos. One point - when you drop photos into the video, less bouncing please - very annoying and takes away from the quality.

When I saw this , my main interest would be where it all started and did not disappoint that it was 1st Palmietsfontein. Which is now Katlehong Astronomy and Thokoza townships. Just subscribed and liked the video.

I lived in boksburg near Jan Smuts Airport In 1968. Travelled many times to UK on VC10, latterly on first of the BOAC jumbos 747. Awesome plane . I left SA end 1972...Couldn't live with apartheid ,. .great footage just as I remember , SAA planes had orange with springbok logo tails.. I took cinefilms (now on dvd) of airport meeting and greeting family and friends...nice to see airport now ...wow how it's grown...

It is worth noting that the current ANC government changed the name of the airport to that of a political figure after stating that airports in South Africa would no longer be named after political figures. They did the same in Durban. These are just some of the many deceitful activities the ANC has been engaged in.

I like the name changes; all these once well-run cities are now dumps with collapsing infrastructures and broken looted municipalities, so rather change the name to suit the current situation of 'how well' run the new SA is since 1994 under the anc. (sarcasm) OR Tambo International doesn't even have its own National airline carrier anymore, it's bankrupt and looted by the New Dawn government in charge. I could have told you all this back in the 1992 referendum.

@@stephenbright9316 I concur. I was merely pointing out the ANC's double standards. The party who "fights racism" with more racism. Not to mention the corruption, nepotism, incompetence and bald-faced lies that have lead to the decline of South Africa since they came into power as you rightly pointed out.
