Greatest band of all time. Impossible to sort out a top 10, too many great songs. Iconic debut album in 1977, but also love London Calling, so many great songs on there in different styles. One of their best is Rudie Can't Fail, also love Death or Glory and the Card Cheat, Safe European Home and Stay Free. So glad I got to see them at the Apollo theatre in Manchester as a star struck 14 year old in 1979. RIP Joe Strummer

Listening to The Clash, Sex Pistols, Angelic Upstarts and Crass records at home in the 70s and early 80s as a young lad was really encouraging and life affirming.

I can’t imagine just how important such music must have been in a world so comparatively isolated to the one I grew up in. Today finding music that fills you with passion, music that moves you, challenges you, affirms you, whatever it may be- is so easy, it’s all there right at our fingertips. Not so long ago it wasn’t. I’m so thankful for the bands that were brave, broke the mould and dared to speak up in the days before everyone more easily could. Legends whom I hope are never forgotten. Respect to you OP, you were a part of a very important movement for music. You have my thanks. Rock on 🤘🤘💕💕

the_clash The name 'The Clash' came to Paul Simonon when he was reading the paper and kept noticing the word ‘clash’ mentioned in news reports. Prior to that, the band had considered calling themselves either The Weak Heartdrops or The Psychotic Negatives.

Topper headon was fired by the band because of heroine addiction. He threw up during an interview in an airport and strummer had to back him up and say a bunch of excuses such as “if he wants to throw up he can through up.” It goes some how on those lines don’t quote me though

“ When it comes to punk rock The Clash is the only band that matters! “. There has never been a more meaningless quote than that. Rolling Stones, liberal, ridiculous line. Totally takes all credibility away from music. These guys were very average musicians that hit a nerve for the people that like this stuff. And if you wanna get into the Hall of Fame you have to get on board with the false narrative. Get over yourselves people.

6:30 "The album featured a more mainstream rock sound" Really? Really?!? Who writes this crap? 1978 and radio in the US is dominated by Fleetwood Mac, Lynryd Skynryd, Meatloaf, and other boring sorts. Give Em Enough Rope ain't mainstream.
