This mall was one of the biggest core memories of my childhood. Holidays were magical. I loved shopping there. I now teach at the high school that was built inside the old Wards. I love going into the mall and reliving old memories. For me, it will always be a special place.

You have that in the reverse: It was first Crossroads Mall, then later on it was Plaza Mayor.

During the seventies and eighties, this was a magnificent place. It was unfortunately over run by gangs of any colour you'd care to avoid and everyone ran North. South Oklahoma City is horribly dangerous now.

found the guy who never goes south of 40 lmao. the southside locos are all in jail. Reddit and wine moms make a big todo about how cap hill, DC and MWC are dangerous sh*tholes when they are just fine. ive live here. i walk my dog around here. unless you not paying your bills to your drug dealer nothing is going to happen to you. Drove through plaza mayor a couple months ago because the highway ramp was closed for construction, nobody tried to rape me or make me join their gang.

@OddManGraham triggered by facts my guy? I grew up frequenting this mall often. Multiple times a week.. can confirm 90s and early 2000s was pretty rough at the mall, and now South Side is really rough. Grew up south side. Facts are facts bud.

It's not the main reason, the reason was Moore was development growing fast and making rent much cheaper for Retail Stores

This was a big childhood staple. Many times the family would go all day after Church. In the 90's Penn Square Mall was where all my friends liked to go.

I lived in OKC from 1981-1986 during the heyday of the mall. I would take my young daughter there and walk all over the mall. It was very nice at that time.

I remember browsing Eastern Treasures as a kid. They had lots of cool martial arts things and Asian art. Seems like there was also a dedicated martial arts store there once too. That was kind of a craze in the late 80’s. There was a really cool hobby store next to it where I learned about table top roleplaying games. Used to hang out at the arcade too as a teenager in the late 80’s.

Absolutely i remember this mall. I'd love to see the inside of it again just to take a trip down memory Lane. Christmas time was always awesome at crossroads and Halloween was always fun too. I couldn't believe it when I heard it had closed because I moved to Shawnee/Tecumseh area. All the Oklahoma malls that I've always went to are still around except for crossroads. It's sad. I really hope one day they can totally renovate it and I could take my kids there for fun memories like I used to have

My grandma lived across from the mall from the time it opened in 74, she lived on 68th on the west side of 35. My cousin and i would go and spend all day there or my buddies from school would go and try and meet girls back in the 90's. I truly miss it

I grew up in the OKC Metro. Crossroads was always the slightly sketchy cousin of Quail Springs or Penn Square for me. It was a decent mall in its day. The Steve and Barry's was cool. There were some unique stores as well like Easter Treasures and the pet store that was there. Even though it wasn't my favorite, I kind of miss it being there. That area is indeed super rough now so it makes total sense that people stopped wanting to go there.

I do want to point out that the main building never had a movie theater inside. The first theater near the mall was the Crossroads 8 to the southeast of the mall that opened in 1988. That theater became a discount theater when the Crossroads 16 opened south of the mall in 1998. The old theater closed in 2005, was briefly re-opened, and finally closed in 2015. The Crossroads 16 managed to hang on until January 2024 despite very little in the way of updates over the years.

In the late 70s until around 1990 this was a great mall. Then they just seemed to quit trying. I don't think gang activity was its demise, it was poor management and lack of long-term planning for keeping the property maintained and secure.

There is now (July '24) a mixed age school (s) in the main building, a science academy using some of the perioheral buildings, the two hotels are still operational, an AMC theater (probably soon to close with conatruction greatly hindering access), and a VERY busy texas roadhouse. The remainder of perioheral buildings and the majority of the main building stand empty.

Just came across your video and subscribed to your channel. I read on Google a couple years ago an article from kfor news that Crossroads was going to open back up. First time I was in Crossroads Mall was in the late 70's my brother and sister in law was going to OKC and I had a drs appointment so, Mom and I went with them and we stopped at Crossroads Mall going home. We went to Orange Juice and can't remember where else we went in the mall. Then when my Aunt took my grandma to her drs appointments in the city we'd go out there. I loved zondervans book store and that was in the 80's. Really enjoyed your video.
