in 83 it was ROBERT Irsay who moved the team. Jim Irsay is his son, current owner.

The city of Baltimore threatened the Irseys with eminent domain and were going to take the Colts away from them, so they packed up and left. I don’t blame them one bit.

Most NFL teams when they relocate: I will take my history and records with me. Cleveland Browns: I will leave all my history in my previous city and become the Ravens. Franchise now known as the Colts: Every time I leave town I will pretend that my previous incarnation is a defunct franchise unless I leave Baltimore.

The last remaining Ohio League founding APFA member Dayton Triangles became the Brooklyn football Dodgers who then became the Tigers for 1 season before then merging with the Boston Yanks. The Colts go all the way back to before the NFL existed and they played in the first ever game between 2 nfl teams, the first televised game, the greatest game ever played in 1958 and the first black head coach to win a title. Amongst many other accolades.

As far as I'm concerned, the Colts name and brand belongs to the city of Baltimore. If you want to move your team, fine but the brand should stay with the city you're leaving.

So what city should own cardinals brand? What about the rams? Chiefs? Bears? Teams move all the time. Records should move with team imo. The team plays football not the city

Ironically for Baltimore, that's exactly what happened when the Cleveland Browns moved to Baltimore and became the Ravens. Cleveland got a new Browns franchise out of the deal.

@@YTHatesMe-999 You're right, and that is TOTAL bullshit. I don't allow it. As far I I'm concerned, The Baltimore Ravens **ARE** the Browns ( I call them the Baltimore Browns) because THAT IS THE FRANCHISE!! The people, coaches, and equipment ALL went to Baltimore. The same way it has for EVERY OTHER TEAM THAT HAS MOVED. I call the Cleveland team the '99 Browns since that is when they were FOUNDED. NEW PLAYERS, NEW COACHES! That is NOT an old Franchise. The NFL fu&&ed this up because of the city of Cleveland...

Well I was an oddball kid from NYC that became a Baltimore Oriole fan then a Baltimore Colts fan. Since the name and uniforms were the same I figured they are still the Colts. Had the name and uniforms changed I would have had to find another team. I remember how much anger there was over the move. Lot's of people I knew didn't like Robert Irsay. Now son Jim Irsay runs the show and I got to enjoy Peyton Manning and a Superbowl win. All on account of a little cartoon bird that caught my eye and a couple of fellas named Robinson and one nicknamed Boog.
