The on-ride videos of these always look incredible. Fun rides too.

The ride was lowered by the operator when the ride was in the wrong position to lower it. It was not running. That is the reason there where no injuries. It should not have been possible to lower it in the wrong position. The fault of the wrong position was there since the ride was new. It happened sometimes. One of the previous owners removed some of the safety systems, probably the owner back then was sick of it not being able to get it lowered. Which costs a lot of time and money.

Back in the late-80s, there was a ride at Morey's Pier in Wildwood NJ (USA) called "Canyon Trip". I honestly don't know how to describe it; kinda like a Topspin, but cut in half so each boom on either side of the platform was free to move its own way, but the platform that held the riders would never invert. From what I heard, that particular ride eventually made its way to the UK and was dubbed "The Rack". I believe there are videos of this incarnation on YT. Any chance of that ride getting a spotlight episode? It's way too rare for the regular FROTW videos, but it's just such a strange contraption.

The ride you're talking about is some kind of Super Nova. Basically a Top Spin but with arms that can rotate individually. There's also versions that can invert. This type of ride is definitely worth a Flat Ride of the Week, as there's multiple manufacturers that made this type of ride. Mondial was first, then Moser, Vekoma, KMG, etc...

That ride was the precursor to the Soriani & Moser Super Loop on Top. I believe it’s trade name was Wild River Raft.
