Calm Mind Togekiss setting up seemed to work pretty well for me. I legit only lost the first time because I got critted through calm mind for the death right before I won. Second time I won with no contest using the same strat.

Ho-oh stalled my Johto team, so in frustration I raised 6 Guts Ursarings, gave them all flame orbs, and proceeded the ho-oh-so satisfying rock slide annihilation. It was so satisfying, in fact that I couldn't help but to take the bears all the way through the Johto League. They had zero trouble with the league and surprisingly Bruno was the easiest one, not even taking out a single bear... (but now that I think about it, that's not surprising for Bruno)

I had to lvl my pokemon because sometimes my attacks failed and only half my team were physical attackers and hooh special's defence is wild

I went to battle it so scared lol, because I didn't had pokemon "good" againt Ho-oh... But still, my Typlhosion took it down with Eruption And before someone asks lol... Typlhosion can be taught Eruption before lvl 82 using heart scales. I decided to teach it to mine at lvl 48 and it was worth it.

took me 3 tries, 1st time I didn't know about rebirth, 2nd time I got unlucky with 3 attacks missing on my 3 lvl 46 pokemon, 3rd time I over-prepared and had a complete team of lvl 48, one with rain dance, 2 of them who literally got tickled by fire type moves, and 3 with physical attack that did either 2x dmg or 4x dmg. I didn't lose 1 pokemon on my 3rd attempt and just felt conflicted at how easy it was. edit: I don't like just spamming items in a boss battle, you either win with strategy or lose because your strategy sucked.

I wish it was possible with my team that I chose for fun and have been putting all of my time into for my first playthrough, most of them get 2-3 shot killed and can barely scratch Ho-oh without using everything but their last moves to prep them to make one attack, if they even last one or two. I want to finish the story, but it looks like I'm going to need an entirely new team just for this one fight before taking on all the E4s (doing all regions gyms before e4s).

not only does raikou join but if you don't finish ho-oh fast enough after downing either him or suicune entei will also join.

Nothing much eventful has happened in attempt 2, I'm trying to go mercy less, and levelling up as high as I can (I'm not allowed to level over upcoming gym leaders highest level Pokemon) I had some doubts, I did ask reddit for help but I'm confused as of what ruleset to apply to swarms, alphas and there's always this question: am I allowed to use lures?

Just made it to this fight... It has already become the bane to my existence as my first run through is mono grass types.. 😅 Update: 6 tries in and finally got it. Took some intense strategizing, and a few well placed sludge bombs from Vileplume 👍
