I just saw the movie yesterday and DAMN it is absolutely amazing to now see how extensive the visual effects were! After seeing how so many of the scenes were chroma keyed and how many elements were added in, it's insane to think that not once did I notice it in the film (which by the way was great)! I love that they make these so intensively. Really good insight :)

María Martínez Ruiz Actually, Tolkien was infact mainly elvish-focused...if you examine the books you are sure to discover that it is infact elvish history, geanology, etc that is most extensively portrayed throughout books. It is just that Slivan elves, being the "lesser" kind than their kin are just that - lesser kind, so they didnt really have that big a part. Although Thranduil and Legolas arent really Silvan elves, but Sindar royalty that ruled Silvan parts...anywhoo, the point is that Tolkien was, infact, elf-opsessed in some sence. He even portrayed his wife as Luthien Tinuviel, one of the most noticable female character and a Sindarin elf. Pardon my lousy english btw and hope I cleared your doubts

crystarius I know, i didn't think he looked bad at all in the new hobbit movie. I thought he looked just fine and there was something a little bit different about his character that i enjoy more this time around. I felt a bit of anger and maybe jealousy in him which is great because I don't like my characters stoic. In much of LOTR movies he was more detached and also cheesy by counting his kills and it was hard to like him as anything more then a a pretty face.
