I was at the 1990 Nintendo Powerfest in Cincinnati, and competed in the Nintendo World Championship. I used to have the pamphlet magazine from the event, but I gave it to my friend who was a huge NES collector. It was probably the greatest event of my childhood.

I was at the 1990 Nintendo Powerfest in Delhi, India. I thought we were gonna play NES but we ended up eating chicken Tika Masala and ended up at the Microsoft Headquarters where we learned to scam people.

I live fairly close to Nintendo HQ and recently my wife sold a refinished piece of furniture locally on craigslist to a guy. When we delivered the dresser inside the dude had a bunch of gaming modern memorabilia in his house. We started chatting about videogames and I mentioned I sell videogames online fulltime. He said that's awesome I work in videogames too! I asked oh ya? He says yeah right out of college i worked at Nintendo for his FIRST job. He wrote the manuals for majority of N64 (ocarina, stadium were his joy) than worked for ign for 8yr than ea 8yr and now a small startup for 3yr. I was so excited he is going to sign some of my n64 manuals and imma frame them as it's just soooo cool that I ran into that in the wild

As we continue years after to talk about the NWC It really boggles my mind how Nintendo has not tried to replicate on modern day NWC competition it’s definitely possible there just Hass to be some creative minds that can make it happen. Think about it, the way we talk about the merchandise, the event, the game there has to be a way for Nintendo to recreate something like this again. The way we talk about NWC in the 90’s is how our kids will be talking about the NWC in the 20’s. More so with how competitive esports has gotten someone needs to push this idea forward.

For me, the current interesting part of gaming at a high level isn't the competitive scene but the speedrunning scene. People finding new tech or routes, a clutch PB or WR in a run, that stuff is wild to see. It also helps that some high level speedrunners are streamers with a great personality

The three games on the NWC cart is Super Mario 1, Rad Racer, and Tetris. If I remember correctly Mario Bros you had to reach a certain amount of coins, Rad Racer you had to reach a certain distance or finish one race, and Tetris clear as many lines within a certain time that counts down with the point values increasing with each game. Besides the NWC carts, I think 93 they had Nintendo campus tour or choice I don’t remember for the SNES era.

Nobody mentioned League of Legends. That is likely the biggest, easiest to follow, and most money making esport. Dota is close along with a few others.

I mean if you guys don't play any of the modern games you wouldn't be interested in eSports. Fortnite, CoD, LoL, Overwatch, Apex, CSGO are all really huge for eSports

I am a sweat on Apex lol, Gave up on CODs terrible response to gamers, Fortnite’s movement is not as good as apex, and Overwatch is for more casual. CSGO is good to watch tho, love when it’s comp base and not causal gaming (to many cheaters)
