If you really want to start taking better pictures don't just focus on lenses: it's the picture that sells. Learn to look for the right moment and make sure you know what settings reproduce that moment on film. Take notes and rethink what you did and must do better next time. Good lenses don't taken good pictures: good photographers do. These lenses are very good but only in the hands of somebody who knows what he's doing. Remember: practise makes perfect!

I was always into photography, since I was 7 and got my first camera. But when I came to taking up my photography to the pro level I got all caught up in what lens, who’s using what, maybe this or that. If I’d only gone for these three I would have had a solid foundation. I did go with the 70-200 then a bunch of primes and a monster 28-300 pump action bazooka. Made so many bad choices with my lenses and other kit too. No matter what you’re going to shoot, the Holy Trinity will be able to get you the shots you need, by and large. I have now got the 24-70 f4 with IS because the 2.8’s don’t have IS. I tend to shoot it f4-6.3 so I don’t need the 2.8, except for when I do. That’s the thing with photography, there’s always another piece of kit that’ll work better for a particular scenario. Beyond the Holy Trinity you need to know what you’re shooting to decide what kit you need. Decide on a budget, stick to it and get the best kit you can. Investing in good lenses is always better than a new camera.

Do you think its better to buy ef 24-70 f4 or rf 24-105 f4?
@JonathanThompsonStoryteller
@JonathanThompsonStoryteller Жыл бұрын
@@andredo4880 that would depend on what you’re shooting and the environment too. The mk2 version of the EF 24-105 is much improved on the old one which is a bit of a dog really. It depends if you use the range between 70 & 105. Or perhaps the 24-70 is good for your zoom then jump straight to the 100 macro which is what I do. If you’re shooting some video the extra focal length of the 24-105 might be useful. Again it all depends on what & how you shoot

@@JonathanThompsonStoryteller i usually use rf 70-200 f4 and its great but i want something wider and probably lighter. 24-105 would be good but i'm also thinking about ef 16-35 f4 or rf 35 🤷 I like zoom lenses cause they are all purpose. I got into photography before I had kids, so I started with the 24-70 and 70-200, both L series and f2.8 and they were brilliant investments. 15 years later, lots of wedding and portraits and family photos later, I’ve only needed one diaphragm replacement on the 24-70. Otherwise, no problems. I added the 17-40 f4 later, and a 1.4x converter (should’ve gone the 2x) and it all fits in a backpack, along with a flash, camera body obviously, and battery charger. Yes it was expensive but good quality gear will literally last for decades if looked after, and the image quality is undeniable. It’s worth saving up for, if your circumstances allow.

Hi mr McKinnon! Your suggestion is more like to cover all the range of focal lengths but, in my opinion, not the holy trinity of lenses. I'd keep the two lenses of telezoom and widezoom such as 70-200mm and 16-35mm and.. aaannddd for that mid range my suggestion IS A 50mm. those 24-70ish lenses are just to stuffed with different glasses to do the job either wide or tele, but the 50mm that clean standard lense... so beautyfull results!!! For me, the challenge is that I like doing things that require 300 or even 400mm lenses, and if I do anything below 100, it's either macro, or something very specific. My main challenge is being limited by how wide my lenses can get, mostly due to what I can afford. The 200-400 F/4L is probably the lens for me. But also, that's more than I'm spending any time soon as a non pro.

For everyone moaning about how expensive the lenses are. Yeah. No duh. They're for professionals. People think that just because photography is some people's hobby it's not also a profession with high demands for both skill and equipment? You don't *have to buy these lenses to take some decent photos. But for those who want to make a living from multimedia work, these are investments worth considering. Even if you can't afford these lenses right now, take into consideration what he's saying: buy a diverse range of lenses to the best quality you're able to afford. the end.

Carried one on my Canon F-1 for years and still do on my 5D3 though I tend to carry a 28 more and more. Forces you to get close to the subject and helps you learn to break the ice. I always found that the second lens everyone used to buy was a telephoto since they didn't want to interact with their subject. Of course if you are shooting crop sensor then the 35 is actually around a 50 which is the proper prime for a 35mm frame.

You COULD get a 17-50, but whether or not you SHOULD is based on context. If you get a lens that will work on full frame, that at least gives you the option to upgrade later without having to also upgrade the lens. But, if you know you’ll never shoot full frame, it doesn’t really matter, so you could go either way.

Utter tosh. I have those lenses but “covering the focal lengths” is not what they are for. The standard 3 lens photo journalist kit is the 70-200 the 16-35 and the 50mm f1.4 for extra light. You also carry flash and two bodies. For sports it’s the 400mm the 70-200 and again the 16-35. The 24-70 is a meh lens that you use on holiday or a day our to capture everything on one lens and one body. It is just wide enough and just long enough but does not give you the drama of the 16-35 - that makes clouds race to the corner of your frame or the pleasing creamy blur and super shallow depth of field you get on the 70-200. You never need to to “cover the focal lengths” you pick a lens for the characteristics it gives you in a picture.
