@@brandonb6164 yhea I didn't think that was the actual reason for it just what I think it looks like happened. If it was a patch up that would have been dangerous as well as ugly. Just really not a fan of that design. The build now the build quality looks amazing. My comment came early in the video. The front half of the bike is cool. It's the seat tube and the back end I'm not a fan of. However when he explained that it hadn't actually cost him all that much the whole bike starts making a lot more sense. Not paying for the machining at all nor the carbon he's used and doing the work himself it's probably been fairly cheap so far so why the hell not.

I've actually got an Enduro design of my own in the works. 180f/160r, 27.5, 64° hta, short chainstays, average reach, just something I'm designing around what I'd like to see in a bike to start. I can always change these figures later for the market, once I get the suspension design proven. This guy gives me hope and inspiration to finish my CAD model.

@@itarry4 I have been designing a bike in the last couple of months and I have been using GIM because it is free but a royal pain in the ass, once I am sure I will actually build it i'll just go out and pay for linkage x3
@TheDustyShredder3 жыл бұрын
@@itarry4 I'm using LinkageX3. Jorris, it is worth the money, I promise. My particular design is a royal pain to get right, and I've been fiddling with it for the better part of two years. I feel like I'm almost ready to finally get a prototype made and tested, to prove the design. There's just a few things I need to sort out. I can have anti-squat at around 100% at sag with low pedal kickback (between 3-7°) if I use a static gearbox with a 6:1 ratio, allowing smaller gears and a wider range of equipment, but sourcing the constant mesh gears in the proper size will prove to be an issue unless I have them custom made, increasing the production cost (I do want to sell this bike at some point). With this gearbox, I can also tune the anti-rise to be right around 100% or lower at sag, minimizing the effect braking has on the suspension with this particular linkage driven single pivot. It will also allow the bike to have an effective seat tube angle of 80° or steeper, increasing pedaling efficiency. My aim is for this bike to be worthy of a podium spot in the Enduro world series. If it places on the podium, especially if I can price it within an affordable range, it will sell very well. Sizing shouldn't be much of an issue. Unfortunately, the leverage ratio will be a touch higher than most people would look for. This poses a few problems for the longevity of the system. I'm also trying to use links that are as small as possible to minimize lateral flex that may reach the shock, increasing longevity. Hopefully, if I can get all the parameters within tolerable specs, this bike would be able to race with, or ahead of, the competition.

Dave has been lucky enough to be in a position that every tall rider has wished they'd been in. If he ends up being picked up by a bike company he should focus on XXL bikes for those over 183cm (6') as there is a void in the market that needs to be filled.

That it some piece of kit! Love the rear swing-arm. Made a red cedar kayak at 6 meters long and thought on making a bike in the same method. Watching your effort has inspired the will to commit. Toyed a few years back with the idea of making a wood/e-glass/carbon hybrid as do large miles occasionally hitting 80 to 98 in a day when fit. This is way beyond my comfort level and to make the idea even more stupid the rear cassette has to be above the bb with 2 rear 160 mm disks mated to enclosed straight pull chains in oil, and the frame will be a trellis stylie able to take 6 litres of fluid, tools, puncture kit and a decathlon short track pump (sick of topeak failing and taking 4 hrs to inflate in the wet) Hope i can get within a million miles of your achievement, a massive challenge and simply stunning. Look forwards to the second frame set.

It's the down tube and rear triangle chain stay that I didn't like. Especially after he talked about the little cost he'd so far had I now don't blame him at all and can understand why he did it.
