I think the inherent problem with all e-scooters is that they’re too fast for the sidewalk and too slow for the street. And many places want to ban them from bike lanes. So you’re left with a very narrow use case scenario.

100% agreed. Here in Germany they must use the street, which is horrible regarding the small wheels and slow speed. So everyone and their grandma drive them on sidewalks and pedestrian zones, which is also horrible because they're too fast for that... My personal decision would be to make them slower but then allow them to use sidewalks etc. legally.

@@6rimR3ap3r The issue in Germany is the stupid 20 km/h speed limit. All other EU countries allow 25 km/h which is the same as an electric bicycle and what most people are able to comfortably drive on a regular bicycle. With 25 km/h it would fit perfectly on a bike lane. With 20 your are often a a bit slower than bikes.

In the nethelrands the biggest issue is that they're too small. Minibikes are by definitions not allowed to use in public traffic.@@marcelpursche5339

I own a compact electric unicycle called a Begode Mten4. It only weighs 28 lbs. Fits right in my backpack. The Honda compacto is cool too👌🏾

Can’t wait to get one!! From what I’ve heard, Honda will release these to dealers on December 1st, but it could be earlier. I’ve been doing some mad research on these and I’ve been wondering, how comfortable is the seat when riding?

My ride was brief but I was totally comfortable. How I'd hold up over a full battery cycle, that's a different question. But I felt zero pain back there.

I have a mobility disability from a motorcycle accident. I would love something like this instead of a mobility scooter. It is much, much lighter, more compact, and less expensive. It would work well for many people like me who do not need a wheelchair but cannot walk across a parking lot without severe pain. A “sidewalk key” that limited the speed would be really nice as well. Not to mention the official designation as a mobility device so they could be checked on planes (exactly like a mobility scooter).

Omg, I was actually thinking the exact same thing. I have massive problems with my knees causing mobility issues when walking distances, but I'm way too young to be zipping around in one of those 3 wheeled old fogie scooters. Plus they're pretty heavy to manage as far as getting it into your car and out. At 41 lbs, this is an ideal weight . This would be really easy to transport in & out of a car. The first gear setting on this scooter goes up to 10 mph. The average person walks maybe 3 mph. You would really have to make a conscious effort to go slower like in a store. I think your idea of a sidewalk key is great to limit the speed further and also a designation as an as alternate mobility device for airlines. Hey Honda! , I hope you're reading these comments, this could be a profitable niche market for you! 😁

what happens when you get to where you're going? just ride the scooter around all the pedestrians? If you can't walk without pain, buddy you need a wheelchair.

@@16BitOG I totally disagree with you. Some of us don't want or need to be condemned to using a wheelchair, nor do we need to use one most times. I mean really, there's not much of a difference between a mobility scooter and a scooter like this. The only difference is that it has the ability to go faster if you want it to. Also it's missing a wheel so it's not a three-wheeler or a quad, and it's compact. If you rode it at a low speed, you can definitely ride around pedestrians. Geez, I mean it's not like we don't have eyeballs. We can actually see where we're going... To answer your question. Once you get to somewhere - you can get off it. And actually sit in a real chair. It's small enough that you put it in briefcase mode if you wanted to. Some of us have problems walking distance wise. It's not like we can't get up, walk or stand. It's just that walking distances can cause problems. Also as stated in previous comments there are other reasons why the Motocompacto would be convenient. So "Buddy" If the time ever comes, & I sincerely hope it doesn't, that you have issues with mobility & you want to ride around in a wheelchair, you do you. There are other options out there for the rest of us.

I think its very cool and I have owned electric scooters, bikes and skateboards but I can't see the use for this. For one is is HEAVY, 41lb that means its a pain to lug on trains and subways, slow top speed (I usually cruise at 19mph on my skateboard) and limited range of 12 miles. I just can't see who it is for??

Not everyone takes the train or subway. Plus, sitting down on a scooter is safer than standing on a skateboard.

What leaves me scratching my head with this product is why someone wouldn't just buy a foldable e-scooter? I just bought that Segway scooter on sale for $200 with the same speed and range as this thing, it also easily fits in my trunk and, while neither are "cool", I think a standup e-scooter looks much less dorky.

I'd argue that the level of dorkiness is equal on both 😂 but there are certainly far more affordable options, you're right about that. Still, there's something appealing about Honda build quality and the appeal of nostalgia made modern.

Same reason that one buys a Honda Ruckus instead of the chinese IceBear scooter. Many people wan't to buy from the brands that they're loyal to, which ofcoarse leads to many other reasons (quality, style, etc).

It depends on the car dealership one Acura dealership was actually charging MSRP while Honda was almost charging $2,000(1,950) this is outrageous and the reason I hate dealerships.
