My S9 Note got "inflated battery syndrome" and split the glass case. I recently replaced it with an S20, and it's still got SD support, but it's in the SIM tray so it's not easily accessible. Not that I'm shuttling gigabytes of data on and off the phone very often, so I really don't care. But it's a solid device and a few hundred cheaper than the flagship models. I specifically got the Note because of the stylus, because my skin is so dry my fingers often don't work correctly with touch-screens - so I have no interest in a phone that doesn't have one.

Same, S10 and recently got Android 12 and OneUI 4.0. I don't see the OneUI update as being much of an "upgrade", but this will definitely be the last major update we'll get. Which royally sucks, because specs-wise, the S10 is perfect, still has a headphone jack, still has an SD card slot and 4100mAh battery, so I can still use wired 3.5mm headphones w/out a dongle, have a fairly fast 512GB SDXC card for $50 and my battery lasts all day since I don't have to charge wireless earbud case off of my phone's battery. The thing is, if Samsung put the specs of the S22 Ultra into a phone with an SD card and headphone jack, I'd spend the $1200 for the 128GB version, but WTF Samsung?

The non expandable storage is a painful deal breaker as a 256gb Note 10 plus owner. Samsung is definitely finding sneaky ways to raise their profit margin with moves like this. I'm happy to see a tech reviewer actually highlight this issue. I also don't know why they are still committed to the curved display on the Note as it effectively takes away usable spen real estate on the sides of the screen. Either way I'm glad to see the Note is back, fingers crossed they bring the SD card back next year.

On one hand as a Note 9 128gb owner, I can say that the storage was more than enough for me, even though while upgrading I'll take at least 256gb version - I've had Note 9 since it's release and still got 23gb available. On the other hand, I like having an option whether should I use 2nd slot for SD card or another SIM. Can't agree about curved display though - I really like both visualy and when holding phone in hands. Indeed, for someone it can be annoying having curved borders while writing with your S pen, but I see those borders as the way of keeping you within the screen AND having visually excelling style. I was also surprised that there are people who dislikes Note's strict corners and monolith build...Well, folks....that's Note. What REALLY bothers me is the lack of 3.5 jack, hate wireless crap.

Having worked in a tech support role in a previous job, the number of times I had to deal with customers in tears due to SD cards full of memories unceremoniously dying for no reason cemented my mindset that they could go the way of the dodo. There are too many good cloud solutions and easy methods of offloading to more reliable storage solutions these days to be dependent on unreliable SD cards.

Just because there are other ways of storing data, doesn't mean that something as fundamental as upgrading internal storage should be removed. Video idea: I'd love a comparison of 3-5 year old smartphones from different brands (each one with the latest available OS). Would be really interesting to compare how each of them has held up in terms of longevity, because that's actually the most important criterion for me when buying a new smartphone. I'm currently looking to upgrade my almost 5 year old LG G6 (R.I.P LG). Even though I love Android's customizability and tinkering headroom, I'm considering switching to iPhone just because of the long software support and the fact that older iPhones don't seem to turn into a stuttering useless paperweight when updating the OS. Longevity is a deciding factor in my opinion, not just because using phones for longer is better for the environment, but it also puts the high upfront cost of an iPhone into perspective and could actually make it a better value option if you get two more years of (pleasurable) use out of it compared to an Android phone.

Just ended up ordering the S22 Ultra the other day to replace my S10+. Had planned on keeping the S10+ for years to come as I'm not one to waste money on the latest phone every year (and I REALLY resent the removal of both the headphone jack and microSD card on these newer phones), but the USB-C port is totally worn out already. It will lose the connection if I just breathe on it, if I can even get it to charge and connect in the first place. So forget about charging in the car. This is the first USB-C device I've owned that I use regularly, and so far USB-C being more durable has definitely not been my experience. Anyway, since Verizon (I think all the major carriers are offering the same deals) was offering $1,000 trade-in value for my S10+, along with selling the next storage size up for the price of the lower size, I figured may as well go all in. This will be my first Note-class phone, and I'm looking forward to it.

@Andy Foster Still not that impressed with the camera. Because of the 5 lenses you need to make sure you're on the right mode (3:4 108mp, 3:4, 1:1, or 9:16) for what you're shooting or you can get a bad picture. S6, one camera, beautiful every time.

Biggest reason I see for so much storage is for photographers. They can keep a majority of their relevant portfolio always accessible to their clientele without pulling out their laptops or hard drives. Personally, I have my 100gb music collection stored on my phone, so I can minimize my Spotify and data usage. A decent RAW photo catalog, large amount of apps and business related programs. It east up 250gb pretty quickly. I'm constantly shifting data on and off my phone regularly. I also have my PoS for my small business, along with some backend for my e-commerce... I'm upgrading a Note 10+ to an S22 Ultra. I'm getting the 512GB model. I was disappointed that 16GB ram wasn't available (it was an option on the Note) but there is a new feature in Android 12 called "Ram Plus", which is basically a storage-based virtual ram... by default on my Note is sized at 4GB. The S22 models seem to support up tp 16GB. One other thing of interest to me is that Samsung is recreating Apple interoperability by more closely integrating with Windows. Another huge announcement made at the big reveal is that while in the past Samsung guaranteed 2 Android version updates they now support 4 generations of Android and 5 years of security updates. This apparently outdoes Google's update policy and nearly matches Apple.

Only thing close would be the iPhone 7+ I briefly had, but which met a sudden, wet demise when I assumed it was rated for swimming. I assumed wrong. But I can't think of anything else I'd want from it. It's powerful, loud, responsive, has a great pen, and plenty of real estate for my sausage fingers. Also, it charges insanely fast. Makes me wonder if there is a continuing future for the Note line and what that looks like.
@timharris5592 жыл бұрын
I really doubt it. Having one single flagship range is a better strategy. It's makes the first "ultra" phone that really makes if different and worth it. Rather than it just being a larger phone with a better battery etc They learnt from the note 20 that a cheaper note will never work. So adding the plus range then this as the ultra really does make sense

There is no more note line. It's been replaced with the foldables. Now we get the note features in the S series Ultra.
@klatchabobby2 жыл бұрын
There isn't a future for the note line lol, at least, not the way it used to be. The reason Samsung never released a Note phone after the Note20 Ultra was because the S22 Ultra and the Note22 Ultra would be fusing together. They were already extremely similar phones and Samsung saw no reason to continue selling both of them, so they took the better design of the two (the Note) and the naming/release time of the S and made them the same phone. If any phone comes out with the Note name after this, I suspect it'll be 100% fold-related, as it makes way more sense for the fold and note to fuse.

I really miss the Note but the Ultra seems like a worthy successor. these new phones are almost tempting me away from my iPhone. But lemme see what this year's iPhones are like before making any major decisions to switch from iPhone to the Samsung Ultra. I once used the Samsung Galaxy 4 which was ok for like a month but I was honestly regretting buying that phone over the iPhone 5 after a month with thing. So if Samsung really wants me to get their phones over the iPhone they really have to be amazing on battery and UI and really manage the bloatware it comes with because those were the issues I had with the Samsung Galaxy S4. I guess expandable storage would have been nice to still have but coming from the iPhone I'm used to not using an SD card or a headphone jack.
