The queen of the Yellow hornet (Vespa simillima xanthoptera) built a nest in a birdhouse. During this period, the queen must handle both nest building and childcare all by herself. Often, she may encounter accidents or fail to gather enough food. Therefore, wax moth (Honey worm) larvae were given to the queen, but she carried them out of the nest.

Queens know that dying means their whole colony they worked for will decay too, so fighting to death is not something they would do because it's just not worth it. It's mostly job for the workers that would hatch

@@waddleds665they fo fight to the death sometimes but the paper wasp cannot take out the hornet and the hornet seems surprisingly unbothered by her neighbor, its likely that once the larvae pupate they will carry the fight out for the queens.

Hornet seems like an updated wasp. They build walls around their young unlike paper wasps. And they seem to not be worried about the paper wasp unlike the paper wasp being on fight or flight the whole time

Also, the hornets must have a higher standard for what they feed their young. The hornet won’t feed their young the moth larva he provides, but the paper wasp takes the moth larva without a problem. So maybe the hornet is looking for more nutritional insects, and maybes that’s why they’re so big and successful 🤷🤷🤷 Or who knows, maybe this hornet is just picky lol. Regardless I think it’s a cool observation!

I'm glad the wasp is still alive and so are her babies, even though I'm not exactly in love with wasps (though I don't mind them, I used to have a chair that wasps built nests on the porch ceiling right above it, but they never bothered me as I sat under them) and her babies gross me the hell out, but I was sad at the thought of her being killed and her babies being eaten.

It mostly comes to who's larvae turns into wasp first. The queens don't really risk fighting for themselves that much because their colonies are their whole responsibility

Like I said in another comment, it comes to who's larvae turns into wasp first. They don't fight right now because they don't risk dying for their colonies to decay, so if a worker hatches it can help said queen to deal with the other, but Yellow Wasps are essentially stronger than Paper Wasps so...
