Cerro Torre is one of the most difficult, isolated and iconic mountains on the planet. It rises to an altitude of 3,128 meters above sea level. It straddles the border between Chile and Argentina in the Southern Patagonia in South America.
Cerro Torre soars nearly 1,524 meters from base to summit. The peak is the highest of a four mountain chain: the other peaks are Torre Egger, Punta Herron, and Cerro Standhardt. The top of Cerro Torre often has a mushroom of rime ice, formed by the constant strong winds, increasing the difficulty of reaching the actual summit.
In January of 2022, two world class alpinists from Italy and Argentina started their bid to open a new route on Cerro Torre's difficult north face. They made it to the top but tragedy struck on the descent. This is their fateful story.

What a beautiful tribute to an extraordinary man. May his soul climb to heights unattainable in his mortal body!

Thank you for this interesting video about Cerro Torre and the tasteful tribute to a famous climber. It was also a pleasure to listen to the history of climbing this signature rock.

I cannot see how someone can actually climb that steep rock mountain. Looks incredibly dangerous and life threatening - but people are tempted by the impossible.

A grim but courageous climbers story, well illustrated and fairly executed! Back in 1971 after a few years of training in S. Arizona our party of 6 spent six weeks in the Wyoming Wind River Wilderness tackling Cirque of the Towers and finishing our adventures atop Gannett Peak.....the trip of a lifetime!! CLIMB ON but know your risks!

I wouldn’t do this sport simply because eventually you’ll probably become a “tragedy “ story 😢

Have had a day to think on it. Because I try not to be too harsh on climbers, it's their passion. OK.. I was going along grandly until I saw the photo of Korra and his kid and wife and .. Well, you did not mention if they did this climb with sponsorship, ie a bit of money on the line, which is kind of the only excuse to climb these harsh climbs with still-young children. Wait till the kid turns 18, or whatever is the legal age to vote and drink in their country! It just really sucks the lack of positive judgement if Korra did not have sponsorship, if they were just doing it for the sport of it. Sigh.. It's too much. I fell out of it after seeing the photo. Just goes to show, it's pretty easy to have a kid, it's another to be a parent and put oneself aside a bit. That climb was uncalled for, too remote, too hard, too many things, without a huge sponsor writing a huge check. Anyway! Thanks, as usual.
