How does this contrast with Lovecraft?

I’d say the biggest contrast between the two is that Lynch often finds horror hidden beneath the mundane, while Lovecraft find horror in the cosmic or otherworldly. Also Lynch = more focused on inner evil, while Lovecraft = more focused on forces beyond our control.
