Many of us have known about ETs being here since at least the 1980's. Yes, it's mind blowing, but life goes on regardless and you get used to it.

Even if we detect a radio signal saying "Hello Earth" from the nearby Andromeda Galaxy our reply "Hello Andromeda" will take more than 2 million years to reach them. A few exchanges between our civilisations will take tens of millions of years. We might as well be alone.

Im pretty sure we are not alone but the majority of life in the universe is probably microbial. There's also the idea of someone had to be the first intelligent life. Of course the distances and the fact earth is a speck of dust in the void and invisible out past Saturn makes contact with extraterrestrial intelligence doubtful at best. Another thing is any radio waves we sent haven't gone far and are reaching places a hundred years behind the us.

Man's mystical deep space search for intelligent life should begin here on Earth...... with exactly the same objective.

Why should we contact aliens?? Who says they wouldn’t eliminate us immediately?

The whole question is structured incorrectly. The question actually is this: Are we alone in this region of the galaxy where there is at least a remote chance some other creatures will find us, or we will eventually find them? Realistically there are only about 200 stars (with planets, maybe) we have any chance of getting anywhere near. If you now factor in the struggle that life must endure in the face of cosmic radiation, solar system catastrophe, proximate nearness to a balance of temperature and liquid water, strength of whatever magnetic field that offers some protection and plain dumb luck then I would tell you there might be 1 chance in fifty of some creatures we might ever encounter, or another way to see it practically, none. Stop dreaming and live a better life, be here now. The Universe is not coming to save us from destruction. Ultimately we will not survive no matter what we do. Sorry.

If we're a simulation, we're prolly an AI based conflict generation/recording/resolution engine... Conflict is the currency of the Universe; And WE carry out the transactions.

jas one well known scientist has oponedl, any alien intelligent life may not be friendly to us. mSF has greatly focused on this. life often imitates art. imo SETIis a mistake. we are likely the only potentially friendly bipeds around - like AI. a bad idea. that includes providing dpace maps of our location on spacecraft, our level of development. better to invest in a planetary defense system. against rogue asteroids, etc., yet to be detected. sorry to sound like a ^little-earther' but why take a gigantic, irreversible risk? any siscovery of us, will most likelybe accidental. by a more space-capable civilzation, is my bet. any takers? ) the Imax movie odeaL5 First City in Space, seems a logical next step, not terraforming Mars, or getting to know meighbours light years away. in any case. religious beliefs might be a comfort. of course. Eric Idle's 'Galaxy Song' gives perspective. ), smd light relief!

No, there's never been any evidence of "god" and the sun is just an average sized star, which is one variable for the existence of life on earth.

We have trillions of galaxies with their billions of stars. These infinite number of stars each has it's own planets going round them!. Therefore there must be many with civilizations just like ours but since they are going away from us or are going around orbits controlled by setup we have to discover the distance of so many billions of light years away from each other we will never meet those other civilisations.
