I honestly hope RGG Studio don’t hesitate to sprinkle some more horror elements here and there in future games, I like it when non-horror games lean in the horror aspect in specific points of the story/side content There’s also a substory in Gaiden in which Ki- I mean Joryu meets a streamer who wants to visit the haunted apartment of a woman who was murdered to try to go viral with a possible ghost sighting Long story short we find out the streamer was actually the one who murdered the woman and he tries to kill Joryu, he obviously gets his shit kicked in, then the ghost/spirit of the woman writes a message in blood in the bathroom’s mirror, thanking Joryu I think it was one of the cooler ghost substory of the series

They definitely made more sense back when 6 first came out, but now that the 2 of them have been retconned to still be alive it definitely makes a lot less sense

Great video, I've always thought about how the horror aspects of Yakuza are mostly slept on. The ghost substory from Gaiden was a great subversion of how the previous games did them. I was also disappointed on how the "Sadako" substory of Judgment turned out to be basically nothing, which is especially egregious considering how well it built up tension while Yagami was investigating the apartment.

The best kind of horror is the one you dont expect. I admire rgg sneaking in horror substories and my favorite was the ghost girl substory from Yakuza 7. I legit cried when she vanished at the end having her wish of going on a date with ichiban fulfilled. It was so wholesome.

i viewed the majima everywhere encounters as little rewards cause each time i did them id get the EXP i needed to get more powerful and the skills unlocked for Dragon i even actively searched for majima before i progressed through the story causing majima to go on vacation since majima progression is locked behind story progression

I see most of the horror aspects being a subversive take on horror tropes of the time. Nothing to talk about other than RGG did a take on what was going on at the time of release. Nicely done though….good to see devs covering lots of topical subjects.

I do like the goofiness and the nonsensical bits of Yakuza but it needs to be balanced out with the horror-esque elements. Yakuza 3, 4 and 5 in particular had this unsettling tone to it. I actually want to feel like I'm playing a game revolving around the japanese mafia and their criminal underworld.
