Ff8 was shat out withtin a year after 7 success. It had a bs story. All the fan fanfare is cope. Nothing makes sense in this game.or why are guardian forces stored on a school pc and only ever used by you, wirhout any bearing on the srory other than a mcguffin plottwist halfway through the game. I've completed VIII about 10 times over the past 25 years, but I'm still taken aback at quite how deep the lore is when laid out like this. You must've fine-tooth-combed the whole script a dozen times to catch it all. Already excited for part 3!
@dmadaffariАй бұрын
It’s this type of story telling that makes this game so much better than what we initially experienced playing it. Many of the writers were ahead of their times in terms of what they could actually physically put in the games, but their world building is second to none. With remakes now a standard talking point, this game could be well-received if redone utilizing all of this lore you have been putting out there that exists for this game. These videos make me enjoy the game even more than I already did. Excellent job!
@twelfthknightАй бұрын
This is kinda silly, but watching this made me realize that FFVIII's fashion is actually quite comfy. Final Fantasy and JRPGs in general are kind of stereotyped as having impractical rule-of-cool clothing, but I think I'd be fine wearing most of VIII's outfits casually. Not Dr. Odine's though, that collar would get scuffed pretty quick.
@gorimbaudАй бұрын
nomura's designs have always been inspired by tokyo streetwear, and the nature of viii's setting means their clothes get close enough that everything ends up looking extremely wearable! xiii's cast is also pretty good for this, at least for the characters from cocoon, while twewy is also worth mentioning, given the cast are literally tokyo streetkids.

The story is all there From npc dialogue and data logs. People just think the story is bad from memory
@adammatlack466727 күн бұрын
@omensoffate I think some of people's beliefs in a bad story is due to some comic reviews of the game. I never thought it was bad, but I do think it's in bad need of cleaning up. More of the "supplemental" story needs to be included in the "active" story, and needs to be tightened up a bit. With that, I think it could be on par with RPGs that set a benchmark for an amazing story. FFVIII is particularly dear to me. I'd love to see it get a remake that refreshes it for contemporary gaming, but shows those who grew up with it what can really do.

42:19 HUH SO THAT'S WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENED WITH WARD. Let me explain. In the french script of the game, instead of being injured to the throat, Ward takes the quote "'If you say something bad...." VERY seriously, and declares, in a 4th wall break, that he will no longer say a word to the "very end of the game". Laguna tries to get him to speak by calling him "FAT", to no avail. Also, to emphasize how bad the french translation was in this particular spot of the game, the quote is first attibuted to Kiros's grandmother, then to Laguna's 10 seconds later! It makes no sense at all! In fact, this problem applies in general to the whole backstory of the game, reasonnably unclear in english, but completely ignored and butchered in french, leading to mass confusion around Hyne, Adel and Ultimecia, and why they are the way they are. Your video here serves as an immense help resyncing everyone's watches.

This game has been with me all of my life. I even have a gunblade hanging on my wall in acknowledgement of its effect on me. I always knew the story but never had the ability to truly put it all together in my head. This really helped to make clear something very deeply hidden in more recent final fantasy entries. Sakaguchi, Nomura, Takahashi and the various other writers of Square where well aware of how tragic history can be. It's almost like the purpose of writing these games were to help people work through the emotions and fears we would hold in our generation. I can't help but think of Machiavelli, Tsun-Tsu, and John Locke whenever I look at the stories of the final fantasies outside of the perspectives of the main characters. This once again really helped with that. this also keeps reminding me of the questions each game asks its player without them realizing it every time they play through these stories: What is it that separates those who live a normal life, from those who will be written in the annals of history? What did it take to make those people grab a hold of their destinies and fight to change the world they live in. Can we, the holder of the controllers hear the manifesto to change the world... can we do so? I think maybe. but only if we can break our shackles of fear, our dependence on comfort and find the emotional and mental state that allows us to burn brightly and relentlessly until the fire can burn no more. I'm American. I am sad to be one. I am sad for monsters are pulling puppet strings everywhere and I feel helpless and hopeless on how to stop the violence or repent for the sins of our country. For now all I can do is hope that this inspiriation and my life experiences help me to cook up a way to help make things better for someone somewhere. Thank you for this video. I needed it to process a part of my own feelings.

@jeanschysoАй бұрын
She inherited the power of a sorceress and became fearful of the rest of the world's reaction to that. She knew about what happened to previous sorceresses and wouldn't let anyone do that to her. She would control the world. In order to gain more power, she devised a way to absorb the power of previous sorceresses. By merging time in one point, she could basically create a universe where two or more sorceresses exist at once, enabling this absorbtion. With the power of all sorceresses combined, she would control reality and be truly safe from the unwashed populace. That is my own theory after finishing the game a dozen times as a kid and then trying to remember it about 20? years later.

I was replaying FF8 recently on Xbox One, and aside from having a bit of trouble getting down the rhythm of "firing" Squall's gunblade in normal combat and during Renzokuken like I used to be able to do without even thinking about it... I was having fun abusing cards, as I definitely hadn't taken advantage of 25 years ago when I was 18 or 19... It all fell apart when I got to "Disc 2" and I remembered how disjointed the narrative is there, constantly jumping back and forth between groups of my party members and Laguna, Kiros and Ward... That was always the point where I just lost interest in the plot because I never felt like I got enough time with any group... I'd just start getting interested in what they were getting into, and then I'm off to a new group. That said, lot of long quiet winter months ahead... I'll probably wind up diving back in and finishing the game. It's been too many years.

What an amazing series. Can’t wait for the next chapter. FFVIII was always my favorite. It was my first in the series - quickly followed by VII, which I thought was wonderful but still flawed in several ways that I didn’t see in VIII. Made me appreciate it even more. In dialogue mostly, a bit immature at the wrong times/some story points that are particularly “video-gamey“. Little things I can easily forgive given the period. When IX came out, I was so disappointed to see them revert back into that immaturity - and in greater ways. While I understand now why it is the way it is (and respect their commitment to pay homage), I think VIII is vastly superior and more inciting of a world to wonder around in. And then I grow up and find out that nobody feels anything like I do. VIII is just a total mess and shouldn’t even be listed among the other installments - IX was FF’s saving grace. Blah-blah-blah… And that’s just me being dramatic, because IX kicks ass - just in a different way. And the same is true of almost every other installment. I just come back to VIII the easiest. Because of essays like these mostly. I’m very thankful.
