I love fuzz face based fuzz pedals, but I much prefer the builders interpretations of what a fuzz face can be over the original circuit.
@CorbCorbinАй бұрын
I love the vintage BC108, when built with good components and correctly, but I agree, that there are so many better modern takes, that one can get Germanium tones, in a box that can be biased in the moment, or a hybrid of both, or select one or the other, as well as the folks doing Treble Booster/Fuzz Faces and ones that sound like a Fuzz Face into a Marshall, along with mid boosts and the ways different builders deal with them being able to go before a wah and/or buffer. I actually used any Boss pedal with their buffer in it, between the Dunlop 2008 JHF1 BC108, that’s built like the vintage ones Mayer was building by early 67’, and a wah, to stop the squeals. I use the Kingtone, I have a Pedal Pawn, for certain gigs, that I’m wanting more gain, and I have the Sitek Fuzzy Face, that can be placed anywhere in the chain, snd works like a Fuzz Face. The Sitek is Germanium, and it’s not a vintage circuit, having both a bias and a texture knob, that tightens bass response. I have the JHF1, that still has my favorite cleanup, when rolling off the guitar’s volume knob. I still use the Sitek and Kingtone the most, for gigging and in general. Just have more options to adjust my tone, for the situation, band and/or song.

@@CorbCorbin You should try the Keeley Fuzz Bender. It's obviously not a Fuzz Face circuit, but it's pretty great for a variety of workable tones.

@@wesjeans1981 That s why I quit gigging. Plus I was drinking too much tequila haha. You ever roll into Starbucks on south Lamar across from the Saxon? I used to have coffee with Mark Murray and Tommy Shannon there all the time. Before Tommy moved. Have a great Turkey Day homie.

pedal marketing is hilarious. take an old pedal the kids never heard before, repackage it and say its totally revolutionary. they buy it every time. what a racket. lol

I think the Fuzz face has less than 20 individual parts, these units are $300 or so on Reverb… go figure.
@seansweeney3532 Жыл бұрын
It's not a Fuzz face in relation to the original 60s offering. Those pedals can go sky high, and rightly so... they were hand made art works, often covered in flocking fuzz... using electronics that were rare even back then in 67... but less parts than even in these. Mosrite had one in 1965, Fuzz Rite... Which was a germanium transistor, a battery, a small tone capacitor and 2 knobs. That was it.
@goatfromhell666 Жыл бұрын
@@seansweeney3532I just whipped one up the other day using one soviet germanium npn, one resistor, 2 caps, and a volume knob

There's actually VERY LITTLE "hotness". I have a fuzz pedal from Amazon that was around $40 new that is probably at least 4 times more saturated.

@seansweeney3532 Жыл бұрын
It's a nice sounding pedal, but is it really a Fuzz Face? I guess the name has gone so far as to become a generic term, but owning actual 60s FF, they started life as a device that firstly muffed the tone and cranked out strait square waves via the germanium transistors, that tube amps notoriously have difficulty reproducing, so they necessarily "rectify" the square waves and the tone somehow is brought back to a usable bright lead tone, but not one that you could chord well with because of the hard knee brick wall fuzz threshold from germaniums. This pedal sounds like a decent overdrive pedal with silicon transistors, using the best British transistor in production currently (or is it German now?)... but idk... does it use Ge clipping diodes? I've found some huge Ge diodes that literally look and sound like tubes. Lol

I built the loaded circuit board in this very unit. Those parts were selected very carefully and tuned by my ear. I would put it up against any vintage 183 unit, as I've had a few and know them quite well. The sounds being heard here are not a great representation of what this unit can actually do. Carry on.

For me, this is probably one of the worst sounding ones. It has no richness, no push, no body or character. But it could just be the tone of the guitar/amp messing w it. Cause I generally love Wes’ fuzz faces.
