This project was an exercise in arranging the piano sheet music of "The Hours" while also trying to create a realistic sounding interpretation of the film soundtrack. Also, it was a great way to really get to know the music. I hadn't seen the film and I also didn't know the music, apart from one piece, "Dead Things", which I had tried to play, at one time or another, on the piano. It was hugely enjoyable getting to know this wonderful music and also, fun trying to capture the essence of the soundtrack. It's a beautiful, poignant score, draped in a feeling of nostalgia and yearning. There are also some great kinetic uplifting moments too, "The Hours" being a prime example.
After getting to know the music so well, I now feel that I must make a point of watching the movie. All in all, the project took about 70-80 hours, working each morning over a 3 to 4 week period.
Sample Library: Miroslav Philharmonik
Piano: Pianissimo VST

This sound completes the movie "The Hours". I cannot help thinking 3 person's life while listening this music. Sensitive, sagacious, and beautiful.

Interestingly enough, the movie really captures the essence of the book. Brilliant. The music is ethereal and haunting, powerful, subtle, and so mesmerizing. A gift to all of us.

That movie is f*cking BEAUTIFUL!!!! Especially the Virginia Woolf scene on the train platform when she argues with her husband about her rights. Perfectly cast! And the soundtrack brings a warm tingling sensation to my groin ... The poster is a work of art: it shows the relationshps between the three women in its perfect design.

MIDI is an acronym that stands for Musical Instrument Digital Interface. It's a way to connect devices that make and control sound - such as synthesizers, samplers, and computers - so that they can communicate with each other, using MIDI messages. A MIDI keyboard or controller keyboard is typically a piano-style electronic musical keyboard, often with other buttons, wheels and sliders, used for sending MIDI signals or commands over a USB or MIDI 5-pin cable to other musical devices or computers

Thank you for your gift. The score and movie are truly a heavenly pairing. What blows me away is how well both represent the novel. I loved the book and was excited but wary of seeing the film adaptation. It was thrilling in every possible way. As you rightly say, yearning. Given form and breath.

Las horas son recursivas porque el tiempo tan solo es una ficha de cambio del orden simbólico (e imaginario) de lo humano. El tiempo como Real se vuelve inefable. Lo demás es retórica. "The rest is silence"

I like most of you love this film, book and soundtrack. I think Michael Cunningham and Virginia Woolf are generiouses. I always loved Woolf and Mrs. Dalloway is my favourite her books. It is poetic. I like Woolf l am writer and have serious mental health can so releate to and feelings at the railway station is as if Cunningham reads my mind. I had to choose where l was living and choose life and quieness. The opposite to Woolf.

Get the Piano book and have a go yourself using the soundtrack as reference (it's on KZbin). That's the best way to learn. It's mainly piano, strings, harp and celeste/glock. Good Luck!
