There’s a lot of talk today about why political correctness and the gender debate are „so nineties“ and should really be interred. I can only rub my eyes in wonder at these statements, because quite apart from the fact that equal rights and equal pay for women and men is realised in NO COUNTRY IN THE WORLD, there’s also discrimination against many other social groups. THE HOUSE OF BERNARDA ALBA, this brilliant and disturbing play by Federico García Lorca who was murdered by fascists in 1936, is an outstanding memorial to the fact that repressive patriarchal societies were a reality everywhere not long ago. We have yet to go a long way before liberty and justice are realised everywhere and for everyone. Michael Sommer and his Playmobil cast present a compact and entertaining summary of this great play. DISCLAIMER: WATCHING THIS VIDEO DOES NOT REPLACE READING THE ORIGINAL. It's just a summary, which means I have left out loads of things. I recommend reading it for yourselves, or, even better, staging it!
