Tile started charging a subscription fee for services. After having been through versions that I couldn't replace the battery, then ones with replaceable batteries and then they announced that to use most features required a subscription, I said no. They may have changed their business model in the intervening years but I have a lot of Apple devices and though the AirTags are expensive, there are no additional fees and they work fantastic!
