Go look at a breakdown of penalties. The Chiefs are way better than everyone at preventable penalties (delay of game, offsides, unsportsmanlike, etc.). They’re run of the mill on things like DPI, false starts, holding, etc. The Texans have 25 more penalties than the Chiefs this year. But compare the “preventable penalties” between these two teams Delay of Game: KC - 1; Hou - 7 False Start: KC - 17; Hou - 24 Offsides: KC - 4; Hou - 5 Unnecessary Roughness: KC - 6; Hou - 9 That’s 17 more preventable penalties that are a direct result of coaching that the Texans have incurred. That’s not a ref issue, that’s better coaching. And chances are when you are better at these types of penalties, you’re typically better coached at the other types of penalties as well. Houston was one of the most penalized teams this past year and a bunch are preventable.
