Even heard that the southern US accent is closer to the English of the 18th century than the modern british English of today. It kinda amazes me how English is still relatively uniform over so many countries tbh, in the Netherlands and Belgium if everyone spoke in their regional dialects a lot of people wouldn't even understand each other. Twents or Gronings is not understandable for people in west-vlamingen or Zeeland for example and vice versa, and this in such a relatively small area. We all know standard Dutch though so it's not that much of a problem. English itself is a fusion of many languages and British English isn't a holy grail of purity, but a fusion of many languages (Norse, Frisian, French, Latin, German, Celtic). Don't put yourself down because you speak a slightly different version of English from the Brits

When I was in middle school I learned about this man and fell in love with the culture and history of such a powerful man and people. He suffered greatly but ensured to get revenge. He had a dream to unite the tribes and did it ensuring his name was feared. To this day he is still my favorite conquerer.
