The hug Astarion REALLY deserves... | Baldur's Gate 3

For those curious where this scene comes from, it's from the Arcane Tower in the Underdark. As you go through the tower to solve it, you'll find books and notes with lines of poetry that the master of the tower used to communicate and give orders to her robotic creation. One of the lines you can find is a command that causes him to hug you and say these nice things to you. He can be found on the top floor after you activate the lift. (Side note: be careful what you select, as the options don't tell you what commands you're issuing. One of the commands engages a battle with it and it is quite strong.)

Like in addition to the kiss option. Haha also I'm curious about seeing how far in a kiss loop I can get. If it just goes infinite or not. But when he confessed to my Tav after the blood drow incident and after I debating internally for so so long I didn't chose the hug him option because I felt that would also be me forcing him into something. He's my delicate chaotic prince and I will protect him with my irl life. I have seen clips of people doing the hug and I really wanted to but I will also probably go to one of my saves and just redo that part to see it. Cuz I'm also sad that the only actual hug I've gotten or gotten to give was with Karlach. However if there was going to be only one hug, without even romancing that companion I'm still so happy I got to hug her after she was able to be touched. I just got to his scene with Tav after a couple long rests after deleting Cazador and I was on the brink of tears the whole time. This game is too beautiful.

And I believe this was the partner or Loraine (I remember it starts with an L something) and I think they programmed it to do that for her. When they couldn't be there to comfort her.

As you go through the tower you also realize she was grieving the loss of her dog, and had taken in a monster because she found it close to her dogs grave. The monster was likely the cause of her death and why she isn’t here. There are some horribly sad moments in this game

I feel like this perfectly obscure interaction is something that a lot of players will relate to. NGL, I'm on my 3rd playthrough and the robot's dialogue still left me misty eyed as it did the first time. There's something about hearing a random line giving you the affirmation and validation that you need.

Yeah Tav is basically the emotional support glue keeping the party from descending into a band of chaotic gremlins. So being able to hug, especially after emotional cut-scenes, would be a nice edition to add in.

I mean we have the darkness worshiper who likes pain, the one who was kept as a slave and hurt but yet wants to do the same thing to others, the one with serious ex issues, the one who wants to fuck you as a bear, the one with daddy issues, the one who hates kindness or any other form of “weakness”, the one who spent 10 years in hell and wants to fuck everyone (probably the least problematic issue if it wasn’t for the setting partner on fire part).

Yeah one time I went one at a time through each option and was like oh shit. I thought we were cool bro. Lol and I reloaded to make sure I had Astarion queued up for the robot hug. So precious!

i loved that scene. the most guides i saw, says that you have to kill him for the item you need to get in the basement. but you just have to read the right book in the tower, and during the dialog you can trigger, that he spawns the item on the table.

I was able to do this just last night. But in my first playthrough, I was the one who gave him a hug. ❤️ The way to unlock the hugging event with him is that you'd have to have a high approval rating. Its in act 2 at moonrise tower. When asked if he should bite one of the npcs. Let him decide for himself. 😊

Nah, you need only moderately high approval. You need really high approval for him to admit before speaking to Araj. And imo it's just more powerful than the one after Araj.

@@dominika3762 oh my! I didn't know it wasn't locked behind that condition. Cause to me, it made sense why he said that due to his new found freedom. Can't wait to see this event before meeting that vile drow (on a different playthrough of course). ❤️

I think a reason why his approval of my Tav is the lowest (even though it's still high) is because I 99% of the time take him everywhere. So he is the only companion that is around to disapprove of any little thing he would. Haha and after we are "together" I say Outloud as extra Tav lines like "Sorry Babe, but I'm going to give this person some gold. We will be fine." And hoenslty I'm not sure if the approval things change through out the game or not but I was certain he was going to disapprove of me giving food to a small child but he approved. He is so deep of a character. Online I've seen that he disapproves of charity and helping people without reward and such so I was happily surprised to see him approve of my charity to a starting child. It either tells us how in depth they considered all the things In context to his history or that they change over time. Either way, the approvals aren't so black and white as we think. Like also sometimes when Shadowheart and Lae'zel or Wyll or Gale approve of certain things and I'm thinking "what freaking part of this do you approve of exactly?"

Bernard's been programmed to respond to specific lines of poetry. When he speaks to you he is quoting from one of the books in the tower so if you read it then you will recognize it. If you read enough other books in the Arcane Tower you find other lines you can repeat back to him to activate his programming. One of them activates hug-mode

Arcane Tower in the Underdark. solution spoiler below, if you want it: . . . . . . . . . . . . there's a ring in the Tower that, when worn, reveals a secret button on the elevator. the button takes you to the top floor. be sure to read everything in the tower. and to throw the stool lol
