I remember seeing that and having my nine year old mind blown. Not only was the music from another planet but Phil Oakey looked completely unique. It sounded so futuristic yet now those synths seem so primitive! Still an absolute masterpiece and for me the true Human League.

@krasteff

***** Sorry, I meant all of those bands did state Kraftwerk as influence, but I don't believe they were honest. When they started they were punk with electronic core and rhythm machines or electronic drums - and were revolutionary, unlike Kraftwerk, which albums were never considered revolutionary in the press when released. This is my own opinion, when I heard Radioactivity LP in 1976 I almost fell asleep. When I heard Boys and Girls I was blown away. But why always emphasize Kraftwerk - this is like saying that 1000 bands are influenced by Byrds or other 1000 by Doors etc. Some people think that mentioning Can or Faust or Neu is a sign of big knowledge. I may be a little stupid, but why then not a single German new wave act wasn't into them but into British new wave?

Hi! Just read your post on Being Boiled by The Human League. Yes, synthie-pop made it´s first steps in the early 70ies. German Band "Kraftwerk" had much influence on this developement. A lot of bands like THL or OMD say, that they were influenced by Kraftwerk. A milestone "Wir sind die Roboter" (´We are the robots"). Their greatest hit "Das Model". Greetings from Munich, Germany.

I do enjoy the sheer musical bravery evidenced here. Synth and vocals only...the warmth of those synths and Phil's vocals catching the mood perfectly. The greatness achieved lives on. Sparsity, when done this well is always a statement - Psycho Killer, and latterly Seven Nation Army - thinks, reflects, enjoys...

Moroder had proper studio to work in with a whole host of equipment to work with, Human league built some of their first synths from scratch themselves from kit form, Martyn Ware had to chose between learning to drive or buying a synth, he bought the synth and he still doesn't drive to this day. Finally it's two different types of music Moroder was dance music with the same few words repeated throughout the music Human League were more industrial Avant-garde with meaningful lyrics.
