Rest in Peace, Geoff Nuttall. What a great artist, character, and instructor. Canada has lost a great member of our musical family. My sympathies and condolences to all those who worked with him, knew him, and were his close friends and family.

Ah Yes. Good ol' Hadyn. I've always like that fellow. When it comes to the Classical Era, A lot of people argue that Moazrt and Beethevon are the best, but I disagree. Hadyn is where it's at. After all, he's the father of the symphony! Love you forever Frazn Joesph Hadyn!

Here comes a question: at the three-bar rest near the end, should a good musician a) act like the music has ended and have the audience fall for the joke, or b) be able to convince the audience that the music is going on even with such a long stop?

When I've seen SLSQ perform this, they always let the audience fall for it, then keep playing! Completes the effect. This is such a great video to watch to help even more people get on board to the power and sophistication of musical language.

Some audience members laughed when Geoff said that “Haydn is God”. Poor souls just don’t understand; in time perhaps they will.

Schubert did great musical jokes based on expectation - i.e end of Wanderer Fantasia or Phantasie in f min for 4 hands. Not so much jokes as...studies in the meaning of life wrapped up into a kernal of musical genius - also based on expectation.

Make sure you guffaw out loud so others know you're smart enough to notice the main punchlines. They aren't hilarious, but you don't want to be the odd one out.

Jokes aren’t as funny when you explain them

That is true of one liners, I agree. But in this case, think of it as explaining a joke in Spanish, for example, to a non-native speaker, not only are the words unfamiliar, but so are the cultural contexts etc. For those unfamiliar with the complexity of language and what is and can be communicated with music, and in this case, classical music, a little explanation goes a long way toward helping newbies get on board an enjoy the richness of music so much more.

It’s not them, it’s the acoustic. There’s absolutely no resonance at all; it’s a dead room.

You just didn't get it, did you. (Not only that, your grammar's not that hot. It's badly, not bad.) They are a top professional string quartet, and that was a stunning demonstration of a classical composer having a lot of fun. You obviously are out of your league here. However, I do congratulate you on choosing a lump of broccoli to represent you. An excellent choice.

@@dunnedigby4957 Dunne Digby bro try chill and enjoy the music instead of insulting people in the comments because of how much more musically inclined you may be than them. Everyone's entitled to their own opinions about music.
