In this video you are going to see an exciting route through the abandoned swamp of Montejaque
(Presa de los Caballeros) and an epic adventure inside the Cueva del HUNDIDERO.
The Montejaque Dam is located a few minutes from the town of Montejaque, province of Malaga, in the Sierra de Grazalema and is located on the course of the Campobuche River - Guadares River (also called “Gaduares”), a tributary of the Guadiaro River.
Montejaque Dam With the Montejaque Dam, an attempt was made to contain the Campobuche River, although the project was unsuccessful because the limestone in the area created multiple sinkholes through which the water filtered, continually emptying the dam.
The Montejaque Dam has a Gravity Arch and a fixed lip, it has a height from the foundations of 83.75 m. and a crest length of 84 m.
Cueva del Hundidero is actually the north mouth of the speleological system called the Hundidero-Gato system, although the whole complex is usually known by the name of its mouth, its south mouth, that of the Cat. It is the most important system in Andalusia with more than 9,000 m surveyed and one of the largest in Spain, with permanent water, sinkholes, lakes, siphons and a certain danger due to the intense rains in the area causing the underground channel to vary with very quickly, with high temperatures in its waters.
It is considered to be of cultural interest, due to its cave paintings, and a natural monument.
