She kept this act up right until the finale of the games, at which point she let loose and absolutely slaughtered the remaining tributes with her ax. When Snow tried to sell her in the Capitol, she refused, and so he slaughtered everyone she cared about. There is a theory that Katniss and Peeta are represented by the mockingbird and the jabberjay, the latter being a genetically engineered by The Capitol. The jabberjays (birds that copy) mated with the mockingbirds (birds that sing) to make the mockingjay a bird that copies a tune. In the book, Peeta fell in love with Katniss at school when he heard her sing. In the next film Katniss’s song is used against The Capitol (won’t spoil too much), while as we see here, Peeta’s biggest weapon is his voice, particularly how he handles the interviews and the public, he’s a natural at using that to his advantage. I just thought this was a really cool idea and wanted to share!! :)

The thing is peeta didn’t want Katniss to see the painting, he didn’t do it to remind Katniss of anything. He did it for himself and the game makers, to hold them account for what they did and also to put more negative attention on himself over Katniss hoping that they’ll go after him more instead. In a deleted scene peeta says that he didn’t want her to see that. I understand why people see it as peeta reminding Katniss of who the real enemy is, but Peeta has his own anger and people forget he’s rebellious as well but in a softer way that hits people. He took 40 minutes presenting his skill instead of 10 to do this painting, and it was for himself because he is disgusted by the gamemakers and refused to leave until he was done It’s why Katniss also did something extreme with hanging the dummy, she saw that peeta really angered the gamemakers and panicked because he made himself a target, so she had to one up him so he is more likely to survive as well.

Pregnancy resource centers on the other hand, provide baby products (clothes, diapers, blankets, passifiers, etc.), parenting classes, adoption referrals, sonograms, help finding jobs, and counseling entirely free. 26:03 One of the things that happens in the book that the movie sadly skips: after the announcement was made about the victors being the in the Games again is that Peeta tells Haymitch and Katniss that they are all going to train. They had a few months from the day of the announcement to the day of the Reaping, and Peeta insists that even though it's technically illegal for them to do so, they MUST train this time. He is the first one to bring up the fact that they will be competing against other winners, so they need to know how to defeat them. They pump Haymitch for info about the other victors (they don't wait until the day they arrive and have a brief convo about in the hotel). Since most of the other districts only have 3 or 4 victors to put up as candidates, they have a pretty good idea who they will face in every district except districts 1-3 (where there are a lot more winners). After all, Haymitch knows these people well, he has been dealing with them for the last 25 years every time he goes to the Capitol as the mentor for the candidates from District 12. Even though Katniss is already good with a bow, because of her PTSD issues, she has to push herself harder during this training period to get cool and collected and come to grips with killing people again, and they all have to help each other over their weakest spots. Peeta pushed them hard, including helping Haymitch get (mostly) sober so he can be an effective means for them to get sponsors. The plan to run away into the woods actually got a lot more involved, and after the announcement of the victors going back into the games, Gale actually didn't give Katniss any pushback about taking Peeta along (and Haymitch too, I think...it's been a while since I read these), but the real issue was always that Gale has a big family. They would have to escape not only with Prim, Kat's mom, Peeta, and Haymitch, but also Gale's mom, his little brothers and sisters (I think he had 4 or 5 siblings)... the number of people who would have to escape just got to be too many. And then there is an incident in the woods I won't go into here that convinces Kat it isn't safe to try to run anyway.

So not only was he the only victor/mentor from 12 for 24 years, but he was completely alone in his life and refused to get close to anyone else for fear they would be killed, hence the severe dependence on alcohol and the grinch behavior at the beginning of the trilogy. In the books, Katniss said Peeta was always seen with people surrounding him in the cafeteria. He is so good at socializing smartly and Katniss saw his intelligent from the beginning. 19:59 effie was never “fake.” she was born and raised in the capitol. she viewed the tributes in the same way every other capitol citizen did, until she had the chance to get to know and get emotionally attached to peeta and katniss. every other tribute she has escorted didn’t last long, and certainly didn’t survive. she got to know these people and grew to care for them personally. she finally got to see the horrors victors live with after surviving. she was never fake. she was naive.

so, important context for peeta in this story. in the book, he lost his leg in the first games. so hes adjusting to surviving with a prosthetic leg when he goes into this one. the movies cut him losing his leg, but it informs some of his mistakes/weaknesses in this one.

One of the most interesting things to me about the films vs books is the fan service they do. The fans just grew an attachment to Effie, the character arc or depth she has in the films is not in the books. She wasn't an "important" character or focused on at all, but they changed her character & involvement in the films for the fans. Just like the "all mahogany" line was a nod to that line from the first film getting so much attention

I love how you said (around 14:45 ish) that Gale was a fighter and a good guy but not really the right person for Katniss, especially with Peeta there. That’s exactly it! Gale isn’t a bad guy, he’s noble and wants to fight back and stand strong but that’s not really what Katniss needs after the games and it’s great to see that you get it. You snooze, you lose, Gale. He never let her know at all that he had any romantic feelings for her in the book. Then, when Peeta steps up and confesses, that’s when Gale decides he’s gonna act like a betrayed lover. 🙄 Peeta is marriage material and will always be better for Katniss than Gale. You’ll definitely see what I mean in the next two. Imo, Peeta gives her the kind of love she never knew she needed. I’m looking forward to your reactions of The Mockingjay 1 and 2. ❤

15:00 It isn't mentioned in the movies but this is 12's black market where people trade what they have in order to try and make life easier for everyone and less dependent on the food rations. Katniss and Gale used to sell the meat from the animals they hunted here and an old lady made stew for everyone out of it. I haven't read the books in years but I think she is the one who gave the Mockingjay brooch to Katniss. The old chief peacekeeper ("police" guys in white armor) always let them have it because he was compassionate towards them (I think he was killed when they put the new guy in his position). The new one destroyed everything as you can see in this scene.

So glad you enjoyed this one. Catching Fire is my favourite of the 4 films. Peeta is the biggest highlight for me in this one. I was always mad that Plutarch, Haymitch and co. never told Peeta the plan. I understand they thought it would be top risky to tell him but I feel like if he knew it would mean Katniss survived, he could act oblivious convincingly and would be willing to be dishonest to her to if it meant she got out. If Peeta knew the plan, I am confident he would have been rescued along with Katniss immediately 😭💔 In my mind, he is equally important to the rebellion. 1. He told everyone he liked her in his 1st interview, which planted the foundation of their "love story" and eventually prompted the berries play 2. Katniss is more likeable when she has someone to protect. Peeta brings that out of her, especially in these 2nd games 3. He lied and told everyone in his 2nd interview that she was pregnant, which prompted even the Capitol citizens for maybe the 1st time to want to stop the Games

24:52 "yes, she seems like a massive red flag" Hi, I'm gonna try to give you a bit of context on my skinny legend, Johanna Mason. So, Johanna Mason, winner of the 71st Hunger Games comes from the District 7, timber and lumber district, as she and Haymitch let us know in the elevator scene. She is mentioned without name in the first book, just as "A few years ago a girl came up crying after she got reaped", that's her. We don't know if Johanna had her strategy since the beginning, so her crying on the reaping ceremony was an act, or she realized she could use it as strategy later in the train, but the point is, she managed to make herself look like a poor, skill-lacking, not-worth-the-time girl, always crying, failing the most easiest of trainings, getting a low score at the showcase and crying her whole interview. Everyone thought she would be part of the bloodbath. In her games, she ran and got hidden, she knew her strategy would put her as an easy prey for the Careers, so they would overlook her, and so they did. She managed to get into top 8 by running and professionally managing her resources until she had a try to the Cornucopia, getting an axe and that's where her real face came out. She went hunting every last tribute with her axe, getting most of the top 8 herself, getting crowned for the 71st Hunger Games and getting President Snow angry on her for taking him as a fool, for not showing her real self since the beginning, provoking something we will know later in the saga. She's iconic, and the fandom loves her very much, but you can say that to 95% of the characters in the original trilogy. Suzanne Collins did a great job creating characters that have lasted of almost 2 decades now.
@growingupwithdisney Жыл бұрын
That’s so clever of her, makes sense for the character we meet, now she’s more honest about herself and basically lays all her cards (for the most part)

there are a lot of reasons why i think this is most people’s favorite hunger games movie (mine included). but i think a very important one was the scene where the man from district 11 was executed- the scene went from being so moving and beautiful and strong, to horrifying sooo quickly. it brought the stakes up to 100 in an instant, and from then on out everything in the movie has the bigger picture (revolution) in the subtext.

And for the record, Gail's whipping at the post was very very different in the books was different too. He had shot a quail and brought it to the headpiece keeper's house who was a big fan of turkey and a regular buyer of his turkeys. So he was fine with him hunting because he enjoyed buying the meat that guy had been replaced and the new guy such a hard-ass. He caught this kid that had just been poaching and immediately drug him to the village square to be beaten basically to death and hung above him while he was being beaten was the turkey which is the reason he was being beaten and he was already unconscious when katniss got there and there was other unconscious bodies around from other peacekeepers who were like dude. The kid is unconscious. We don't want to kill him and he was like f*** you and knocked them out cold and later those people, one of which was named Darius was sent to the capital to be turned into an avox which is one of those people who can't talk because liking game of thrones they have their tongues cut out

It may seem like such a small thing but I wanted to celebrate when you called the monkeys "mutts". So many reactors don't understand that term. Sometimes it gets frustrating. Finally someone else noticed the meanings of the mockingjay symbols in each one. The first one the jay is holding an arrow like Katniss is a player in the games. Second the jay is trying fly away like she is trying to run and protect her family. Third with the jay facing forward with wings in flight is her wanting to fight. Fourth the jay breaks the circle it is in because Katniss finds a way to break free.

I was hoping you’d recognize Lydia Bennet since you mentioned Mr. Bennet from the last movie. 😅 Peeta’s painting made Katniss worry about him being targeted by the gamemakers that’s why she had to think quick how to upstage whatever he did that pissed them off (which was painting Rue). She’s too protective of Peeta even when she’s annoyed at him about the elevator scene with Johanna. “Also I do think that it is important that Peeta cares more about Katniss than he does about the rebellion.” ~ And it’s beautiful that it’s mutual. That “I do. I need you.” from Katniss was always overshadowed by their passionate kiss but it was the moment she chose him,selfishly, for herself. He was telling her to choose herself and her family ~to let him die for her. She don’t want to.

Great reaction! 😊 RIP always to Philip Seymour Hoffman (Plutarch Heavensbee)!!! This my favorite movie and book of the "Hunger Games" series. And in this movie we meet two of my favorite characters: Finnick Odair and Joanna Mason. Out of all of the outfits that Cinna made for Katniss, her wedding/Mockingjay dress has been my absolute favorite along with one outfit that you have yet to see. 32:45 - 33:00 Even though it's fairly quick, this scene with Cinna is hard to watch no matter how many times I watch this movie. He's such a great character. 40:20 This jump scare with the mutt monkeys always gets me whenever I watch this scene. LOL! This movie left on such a cliffhanger with Peeta and Joanna captured. These films evoke both deep emotions, and such adoration for the talent of the actors in these films.The characters of Katniss, and Peeta are fantastic, and Jennifer Lawrence, and Josh Hutcherson are phenomenal. I love these characters, and the actors who play them for different reasons, but Peeta is far and away my favorite. Because he sacrifices himself for others, and asks for nothing in return. His only desire was to be with Katniss, and through it all he never gave up one thing, his dignity. The painting of Rue says so many things on so many levels, and it is true what other commenters have said, you so far are one of the ONLY reactors to catch on that it was Peeta who painted it. GREAT JOB OSCAR!!!! I absolutely wait every day to see if you have posted so I can watch alongside you on these films/tv shows. GOOD ON YA, MATE! Brian

I have to say it only looks like Katniss loves Gale in the movie because they were trying to push the whole love triangle thing. In the book he kissed her that one time and then she kissed him once when he was in pain and the morning after she hoped he would forget about it. Then in book 3 she only kissed him after Peeta came back hijacked and she was extremely vulnerable and hurt by Peeta’s actions towards her, again showing she never loved Gale that way. She did fall for Peeta by the end of the second book though. It’s all a lot clearer in the books, trust me.

They made Gale seem nicer in the movie. In the book he had basically laid claim to Katniss as his future wife at age 12, by the time of the first book at age 16 she had repeatedly told him she had no interest in marriage to anyone. And while he was later all in on rebelling he backed out of the running away plan not when he found out about the rebellion in the other districts, but when he realized she intended to bring Peeta along on the escape attempt.
