Haymitch won the 2nd Quater quell or the 50th HG. Usually there are 24 but his year had 48 (4 tributes from each district). Double the amount which is crazy. You can read more about his games online. Haymitch used the arena to win which Snow did not like. So Two weeks later, Snow killed his mother, gf and brother. That's also the reason for his drinking. His story is really interesting.

Katniss may outmatch Peeta when it comes to physical combat but I think he deserves more credit for his guile. He manipulated the audience like a pro with that fake pregnancy reveal!

I think his strengths always lied in his charm and ability to connect and play into people, something Katniss couldn't easily do at first which is probably why president coin originally wanted to rescue him instead of Katniss and why the capital utilized him during Mockingjay.

funny fact. in the books katniss has never seen cpr performed before so she literally thinks finnick is kissing peeta at first and says “From where I sit, I pull an arrow, whip the notch into place, and am about to let it fly when I'm stopped by the sight of Finnick kissing Peeta. And it's so bizarre, even for Finnick, that I stay my hand.”

I’m sure someone’s already gotten there before me, but in the book at the capital party for their engagement, Plutarch approaches Katniss like he does in the movie. However, during their talk/dance, he reveals his pocket watch to Katniss. On his pocket watch, there is an image of the Mockingjay. It was the first really big seed planted. Also, katniss & finnick seriously had to sit there for an HOUR straight, listening to their Loved ones in pain, screaming for help and for them. Gets bypassed a lot, but it was very traumatic for them.

@@RTTV2011 my only other book fact that I haven’t seen, Peeta loses his foot to the mutts in the first games. He only has one good foot, got a prosthetic once out of the arena. This is the main reason mags had to sacrifice herself in this one. Katniss also lost her hearing in one ear due to the explosion she set off in the first games. So both have a handicap to remember the games by forever.

I also loved Johanna's moment in the book for this more than in the movie - she walks right into the screaming jabberjay area because she knows she has no one whose screams she'll hear. That's straight up tragic.

i’m very surprised evan picked up the fact peeta and katniss didn’t take a look at the crowd. in the book, it’s told that Cinna actually instructed them to do that, to give them a more godly, untouchable aura rather than a loving, amiable one.

Haymitch still has the best quote in this movie... "Wake up, you never get off this train"... they were raised thinking if you are reaped and win the hunger games, you get a house in the victor's village, you get rich, and other than having to mentor once a year, you get to be left alone... However, it's never close to the truth. You either say and do what they want you to, whatever that is, or they torture and kill someone you love. Haymitch lost his mother , brother and the girl he loved because he showed up the Capital when he won the last Quarter Quell. Joanna lost everyone she loved. And Snow already threatened to kill Gale. They become slaves of the Capitol for the rest of their lives. The winners are the one died, because they are at least free. And I hated Finnick, HATED him... however... he became one of my favorites...

and they had it the worst because of the way they won the game. they “fell in love” and defied the capitol. while it was entertaining for some, it set that spark of a rebellion for everyone else. even if the rebellion took longer to start, katniss and peeta would’ve had to keep making appearances to keep the peace with their star-crossed lovers storyline.

This is both my favourite book and movie in the series. Was so happy to see you guys discuss it. Seeing Katniss really start to fall for Peeta, the savageness of this Quarter Quell, the moves and countermoves by Plutarch to deceive Snow...fantastic. The fact that the tributes went in knowing the plan but not knowing the obstacles is powerful. It was a high risk potential suicide mission to rescue 1 person who doesn't know or want to be saved, but for a cause so much bigger than themselves...what an honourable sacrifice they made

OH. other biggest plot change. In the books, Peeta lost his foot in the first games. I think to the mutts at the end if I remember right. So this WHOLE game arena in the books, dude only has one real foot. That was the biggest reason why Maggs had to sacrifice herself for him. Not just simply because he was hurt by the fog. Just a note, Katniss wasn’t the first female winner from District 12…she’s just the only one who’s alive. The first female winner was also the first winner in general from that district and she won the 10th Games (ironically Snow was her mentor 🌚). The new THG prequel that just came out is about their story. Can’t wait for you guys to react to it!

I really loved these games because with the Victors every death just seems so much more personal. They all understand the pain and turmoil you get from taking someone else’s life. They’re not young and blood thirsty. They’re tired and so angry they have to go back. I love it.

Haymitch won the 2nd Quarter Quell 25 years before this. This year had double the tributes, and the deadliest environment making it the hardest games ever to be held. The food was poison, the grass was poison, the water was poison. They had to drink rain water and rely on sponsors mostly. He won in an unconventional way, after he lead the last female tribute from district 1 to the edge of the arena and she threw her axe, he fell over and it bounced off the force field back to her. The capitol was pissed about this so they killed his mother, brother and girlfriend causing him to become an alcoholic when coupled with the fact he went 24 years watching kids die from his district.

Imagine being a pawn in two seperate games/revolutions. People have been using katniss for their benefit from the very begining. She never is able to truly trust anyone and is always trying to find ways to show she is in control ( taking the berries, shoting at the barrier ,trying to stab peeta in the end of this one, and taking th final shot in mockingjay) This poor girls has ptsd and control issues

As a anime fan I never really liked western movies/shows. I think they are all very cliche and the format they run is very dull. However Harry potter and the hunter games series always stood out to me. Formidable world building, remarkable and lovely charachters and very great writing.
