The Hunt 1000 Day 5, Billy goats bluff and Dargo

Day 5 of 12 riding The Epic HUNT 1000km, An unsupported bicycle journey through the Australian Alps. On this journey, we travel from Melbourne to Canberra through the rooftop of Australia along backcountry trails, across exposed high plains, through snow gum woodlands, and among tall native forests. Today we ride from Horseyard Hut Flat down Billy Goats Bluff Track to Dargo and o to Dogs Grave hut over the summit of Birrigun, come along for the ride!

What a day. As I was watching it made me think of the Grampians trip that I joined on with you. It nearly killed me but man I still think of it and how awesome it was. Planning to do the hunt in 2 years time and this video series is by far the best for giving an idea of what to expect. Keep up the good work mate.

thanks for posting these. My wife and I have been watching each one and it's cementing our goal to one day do the Hunt1000. Can I please ask about your bike? Did you ever think it would be nice to have rear suspension or would that be insanely out of the question? My wife and I are yet to begin bike packing so we are just looking at options for starting. Bike wise I went for a steel hardtail, partly for strength, I'd started bike-packing on a carbon dual sus bike.. ended up with cracked & worne frame. Hard tail was perfect for the hunt. Only a couple of times on the hunt I thought a dual would have been nice, but you also have to manage risk, as you are a long way from any help if anything goes wrong, so things I'd normally ride made me think.. na lets walk, be safe and get to the end.. it's not a race aye.
