For the last three years, Darian and I have ventured out to The Mighty Niagara River and this marks the first year where we were truly prepared for the challenge ahead of us. Our goal was to document our four day brown trout hunt and capture all of the moments leading up to our encounter with a fish that we have obsessed over for the last two years. Learning this new fishery and all the ways you can fish it is what keeps us going back, the never ending search for success on this body of water is what keeps us going back year after year despite our previous lack of success. Through the high’s and low’s of our trip, join us, as we set out to take on The Mighty Niagara River.

Don’t know if you’ll see this because I just discovered your channel and I see this is over a year old. When steelhead jump, give them a little slack is the violent motion when they’re in the air as a thrash back-and-forth that pulls the hook. When I say a little slack, I mean a little bit dip the rod a bit your ability to land fish will go up dramatically if you make this one adjustment.

Lake trout are notoriously known for hitting on chartreuse beads. I live on the ny side & it’s the same when you use chartreuse lake trout will always hit on that color bead.

Interesting, we were instructed by locals to use chartreuse in lowvis for the browns n steel.

@@FishingOD_OFFICIAL I've been float fishing the Lower Niagara for 10 years & from my own experience chartreuse beads attract lake trout especially if you fish the fall months. The reason being why lake trout love chartreuse beads is because it is identical to there own eggs. If next time you come back I'd recommend using spawn bags, natural orange color beads, live minnows & marabou jigs resembling a minnow for browns & steelhead. I am not saying chartreuse beads won't catch browns but even in your video you were catching lake trout due to the fact you were using chartreuse beads. Best of luck & great edit on the video bro!

2nd this. You gotta hit the whirlpool. Don't be intimidated by float fishing. You don't need a fancy center pin set up to it. A ten foot or longer rod with a decent bait caster will work just fine. You guys are definitely persistent. The Niagara river is an amazing fishery, but it's tough and unforgiving. Keep at it.

@@FishingOD_OFFICIAL just get a float reel, you can use the same rods 10foot+ but 13’ work best. This was first season using a centre pin by the 2nd or 3rd time I was confident. Practice your cast in field. 15gram-30 gram is easiest to use, and use fresh roe bags. See ya down there

You have a fair point however with how soft our rods are it would be way too soft of a setup. Bottom contact and fish detection would be basically 0. I could be wrong, however I don’t know of anyone that uses a 13ft rod with fluoro unless you are centerpin fishing. Let me know!

I have been fishing steelhead and browns and salmon in almost every river and creek on Lake Erie and Lake Ontario for the last 25 years and have never used braid for trout or salmon just my opinion any way love that you guys like the fishing up here it’s an incredible fishery and always an adventure keep at it I have landed a hand full of browns Hitting that 30” and a little bigger over the years they are out there keep at it you will get them if browns are what your after there are better spots and easier places to catch them then the Niagara I would send a bunch of pics but not that good with this thing lol

I came from a time when you 1st learn to fish. The ins and outs to landing big heavy fish is different than normal fish. Nowadays they start a youtube channel and fish for likes. Don't forget to keep it simple. Learning to land them should be before filming

Hey Joe, thanks for the feedback. I’m assuming this is the only video of mine that you have watched. If you’d have taken the time you’d see that I can fish damn well. Ive been fishing for 20 years and have been working in the fishing industry since 2017. This film was an investment that came out my personal spending money and I was not going to not make a film despite not having a successful trip. This was a learning experience for my buddy and I, we do not live in Niagara, we had no plans of hiring a guide and wanted to simply take on the Niagara on our own. Filming was not a distraction for our fishing, if anything it’s what motivates it. I don’t know which aspect of this video you could possibly consider « fishing for likes ». If anything this video shows you the true reality of fishing and that no matter how good you are at the sport, fishing at the end of the day still remains fishing and it does not always go the way you plan it. I catch musky far bigger than any steelhead or brown with absolute ease whereas many go their entire lives without successfully targeting them. Again, I appreciate the feedback, I hope you take the time to go through my other videos.
