“Story of Seasons” is the original Japanese title for the game series, and they still use it until now. “Harvest Moon” is the Westernized title.

OG Harvest Moon has been going under the name "Story of Seasons" since 2015 because the publisher changed but Natsume has kept the rights to the name "Harvest Moon" so the name of the game was changed to "Story of Seasons." So funny enough, the "Harvest Moon" now is a rip-off. The next Story of Seasons game is a remake of Friends of Mineral Town (2003) and it will be released on the Switch, but no US date has been announced yet.

I'm only like an hour into watching the VOD, but... to clarify: Harvest Moon One World is by Natsume, which isn't the team that originally created Harvest Moon. They just own the name "Harvest Moon." Story of Seasons is what the series is called now, because the company and team who created the original Harvest Moon games are using because they're not allowed to use the name "Harvest Moon" due to that name being owned by Natsume, which is who they originally localized their games through. Any title that comes out from Natsume called Harvest Moon isn't actually made by the original Harvest Moon developers. Story of Seasons, however, is. I hope that helps! :D

Harvest Moon: One World is not from the original creators of Harvest Moon! It's from the American licensing team (Natsume) who took the name after their partnership with the Japanese developers (Marvelous) ended. The original makers of Harvest Moon now name their games Story of Seasons. That's why Friends of Mineral Town remake is called Story of Seasons now. It's apparently releasing this July in the US. There's a lot of confusion about this so please don't go spreading information if you don't actually know. You can look at the Story of Seasons wiki page to find out this info!

If you don't have any empty plots available the islands won't have any villagers on them. Villagers only show up on islands after someone has moved out of your town and the plot hasn't been sold yet. Hope that helps :).
