I get iinspiration from switching media types when I get bored, but I agree as a fountain pen obsessive you can just fall down a rabbit hole and the tool gets more important than the art...the best thing is to spend that time drawing, not pondering pens....like if something works, I just stick with it. Grass is always greener but the perfect pen is the one you have in your hand that that moment, as long as it's working. Like several of my favourite drawing tools are stuff for kids - cos they are surprisingly lightsafe and fun to use. Not gojng to look for anything further...who needs to?

How true !.. I bought some Pitt Artist pens because I read they were the best, then I bought Pigma Micron because I read that they were the best, then I bought Unipin because I read that they were the best.... Of course, my best pen is the pentel superball bh16 which they dont make anymore... so I dont use it just in case it runs out !... Madness !!

I miss drawing with garbage pencil I found on the ground and just focusing on the quality of my drawings. Nowadays I spend 60% of my time thinking about the pen I'm using and why it's too inconfortable or too heavy, 20% thinking about the pen I'll buy next and at best 20% focusing on the damn drawing. Great work on the animation btw. It would be interesting to see you animate your weirder art.

Awesome video, subscribed. Although I do think that trying different mediums can be refreshing and you might enjoy drawing with certain things more than others, it is only up to a certain point. Also loved the animation, and the fact that the Pentel Orenz Nero was in it.

My journey has more or less been the opposite. I started out with a disregard for fancy pens, and pretty much considered them all the same. I also suffered greatly from cramps when writing or drawing, so I just avoided it and cared even less for the tools. Eventually I tried some good pens, and it was a world of difference. Of course, there is no such thing as a perfect pen, but nevertheless. I certainly have no regrets, except in that I didn't invest in quality earlier.

i wouldn't say good mechanical pencil make you better artist or something, but as artist who is enthustically collect many pencil as i can i can say using different pencil does give me more pleasure while doing my practice. its like trying different weapon in video game. it doesn't make you a better player obviously, but it give you a little motivational boost 😅

I only went out of my way for the ideal dip pen and mechanical pencil and clutch pencil. I had them custom made and to be ergonomic. Any pencil I get from people as gifts are just for display but almost never used unless it's a fountain pen. I am in bliss.

A self-reflective person can't be that stupid. Is obsession with art better than obsession with art supply? Sometimes it may even be the obsession of getting rid of obsession that totures us too. I guess it is hard to stay clear from consumerism today even when you seem to live close to nature and can be distracted by many other things. I enjoyed your lecture.

Your conclusion at the end is *spot on!* I used the Staedtler pigment liners for a long time, then I switched to the Uni Pin pens because a friend convinced me they were better since they're cheaper. Well, I tend to use fine liners for squinty detail work, and my grip keeps sliding down the pen barrel. That cheaper and "better" Uni Pin, it *hurts me.* On the other hand, the more expensive Staedtler pigment liner's got a smooth grip that doesn't cause pain, doesn't get in the way, doesn't have me forcing myself to readjust my grip all of the time. It is the better fine liner -- *for me* -- because I forget it's there. And, I really enjoyed your 2D animation :D

Nearly 30 years ago I had a boss that told me not to use any ink color than black, or blue on company paperwork, preferably black! I had borrowed a co-workers green inked pen to finish a report. I promptly searched for the cheapest, messiest black ink pen I could find, and used that brand of pen for my remaining employment(25 years). The pen was a Zebra gel 10. The Zebra gel 10 used to stay wet, smeared, wrote fat, and I think the writing fades to oblivion over time, perfect for company paperwork. They used to get pretty dirty at the plant, so I bought them by the box, and used many. Now I'm more discriminating in my writing implements opting for a finer clean line. I also agonize over losing any nicer pen. The grass is always greener..

I've been through this phase a few times, I'm currently back in this phase lol. Which is why I clicked. I mainly still just use a bic pen or a generic mechanical 0.5. But I still obsess about finding the coolest unique pencils and pens. Not so much about making me better, just a look and feel thing. So in that way, I am still hunting. At this point I'm just taking a bunch of pens a part and making frankenstein pens lol.

All my expensive rapidographs clog, and now i'm thinking of using cheap (but good quality) rollerballs as my main pen. Liners can be too fragile with the felt tip as well. I found a Dong-A fine ball point .3 for less than a buck, and it isn't clogging on me just yet and is doing the job just well enough...

Thanks for making this Video! I have been hoarding/hunting the best Art supply for years now…instead of sticking to one Art media and using it and experimenting with it i keep telling myself when seeing Artist on instagram or KZbin making such lovely and Perfect drawing with watercolors, that this is the one Art media which will Make me better at drawing. Then seeing some other using brush pen and ink, i Want to purchase some ink stuffs cause i like the look of solid and monotone color…the cycle Never end even though i know that this is Not the Case. Like you already said, better or more expensive Art supplies are Not gonna Make oneself a better Artist automatically…😞 also is it kind of difficult for me to Stick to one Art media to use When there are so Lamy out there and Each of them is special and unique in their Own way ✨
