My favorite thing about this film is that they cast big name actors in small parts and kill them off in minutes. It proves there's no plot armor, death happens randomly, and suddenly. It's gives the audience a sense of dread subconsciously. I think it's a perfect film.
@lampad4549
@lampad4549 Жыл бұрын
Most veterans hate this film I believe that says something, and guy pierce was hardly a big actor at this time, not to mention Jeremy runner was marketed the star of the movie and his name is up front on the poster. Even if what you say is true I would hardly call that the film demonstrating a lack of plot armor if the only thing the film does is kill of a "big name actor" in the first few minutes, that relies on some sort of meta view of the film being familiar with guy pierce previous work in order to appreciate the film by your logic the film doesn't stand on it's own. The movie is far from perfect way to many plot holes. Edit: if you were talking about Ralph Fiennes all the points made about guy pierce still stand.

Hardly a sense of dread when you only kill of side characters that appeared for a few minutes and barely have any character development and all the main characters survive, harry potter did a better job of killing of character than this movies.

i love ho this movie just ignore the fact that USA started the war pretending to search for nuclear weapons that dont exist, at the same time discribes the enemies, the iraqis as terrifying minions who might shoot u in the back if you arent watching. and this movie got the oscar. meanwhile, other popular movie of the same year, Avatar, the protagonist said something ironic, Jake Sully: This is how it's done. When people are sittin' on shit that you want, you make 'em your enemy. Then you're justified in taking it.

What people tend to forget about explosives is that it's not just the fireball or shrapnel that you have to worry about, it's also the shockwave. Cuz if it hits you, it doesn't just blow you to the ground, it literally liquifies and turns your insides into jelly.

I technically worked with Jeremy Renner over 20 years ago on Angel. No one knew who he was then. I was on set at one point, but I can't remember if I met him or his stunt double. It was during a fight scene, so he may or may not have been there. His character was trying to kill another character. 13 years later, they played husband and wife in American Hustle. Renner was nominated for an Oscar for this.

Interesting point about the director, Kathryn Bigelow. She has made three movies now that are BASICALLY about people who are addicted to an extreme adrenaline rush. Point Break (about bank robbers who are also into extreme sports), Strange Days (about a futuristic technology that people become addicted to that allows you to experience the violent and/or sexual experiences of other people) and this film, about a soldier addicted to the adrenaline rush of war and makes rash decisions just so he can feel that rush. She definitely likes dealing with these themes. Also, The Hurt Locker is one of the only films I've seen that depicts how the shockwave from a blast is what usually kills, not the fireball.

The fact Jeremy Renner's character is driving the humvee back after a certain concussion at 26:32 is a horrible director decision.

Movie gets a lot of things wrong just in terms of technical aspects, procedures, etc. But its still a great film. My uncle fought in Vietnam and one of my favorite stories of his was about how they'd put up Chain Fences around their FOBs because it was an effective way to stop RPG's being fired into camp. The RPG's impact detonator is in the nose of the warhead and often times they'd just go through the hole in the fence and get stuck. Well someone had to go and knock them out of the fence line and he swore to his dying day their EoD tech would walk the fence line in shorts and a tanktop and just poke the damn things out of the fence, he even said he saw him take a hammer to one once.

When things explode, they shoot shrapnel. Most movies will show a grenade blowing up and it has a huge explosion, but they really don't look like that in real life. The explosion itself is small, but they can shoot shrapnel up to 200 feet. I also like how you said that guy has a weak mental state. Clearly you don't have any idea what being in war does to a person.
