He told her in one breath they can only be friends tore up the divorce papers and then after the storm he tells her that he only loves her and that he will divorce his wife. The ex-husband stays with Lina and they basically get engaged, but he tells her he won’t marry her until XiaoXi gets married first because he wants to make sure she’s okay…he still feels guilty for leaving her. XiaoXi eventually gets engaged to the mayor guy who’s carried a torch for her for a while but their marriage gets delayed for a bit because of some side drama. Lina pushes for a wedding as soon as XiaoXi becomes engaged, but the ML keeps pushing it off. It’s hard to get a read on him. I don’t know if he started to develop romantic feelings after the divorce or if it’s just guilt. The drama never really clarifies, but it’s clear he admires and cares for Xiaoxi. He reassures the mayor guy that he and FL never consummated their relationship and he saw her as a sister the entire time they were married. You see what I mean about the confusion. However, Lima is obsessed with the idea that the ML loves XX and won’t let it go, especially after they move back to the hometown after some bad financial investments on her part. He says it’s to have a better standard of living, but she thinks it’s to be closer to XX. Smaller subplots aside, Lina basically sabotages her relationship with the ML with her jealousy and constantly trying to target XX. The ML finally cuts her loose. XX gets married to the mayor. The hometown becomes prosperous, and there’s a last clip showing XX living a happy married life with her mayor husband and giving the audience one of those government sponsored messages about working together for a prosperous China. The full series is not on KZbin, so I don’t know if there was any episodes after that or if I’m missing any scenes because most of what I’ve seen or just clips, but I didn’t see the ML again and last I saw of Lina, she was sort of broken and stewing in her own resentment.

This comment seems a bit clueless. The wife loves her husband enough to realize that he could be happier with his first love. Bringing her into the home and other actions let her rightly think so. A divorce now before their marriage is destroyed and full of bad feelings means they can salvage a friendly relationship that is good for them and their children. I think the wife is a sweet and compassionate person who is trying to do what is best for everyone under the circumstances.❤

This cheating husband didn't learn his lesson. His first love left him over a man who she thought was richer than him. This mistress betrayed this stupid husband for the first time, & then selfishly seduced him after she divorced her husband without being bothered by conscience that this stupid husband was married. She was greedy. This stupid husband's regret for betraying his wife was his just pay back upon realizing that he too was betrayed by his first love again. Too late for him to realize that thst the wife he divorced met the right man who loved her truly, so she married him. Truly, one can only realize the value of the right person for him once he lost her. Regret he had but it was just too late! Well, he deserved it.

What a brainless tool! The ex-wife is too nice, but karma will unfold on that cheating couple. I can't fathom how the ex-husband doesn't feel any regret, shame, or remorse for his ex-wife. He still has feelings for the slag that coldly drop kicked him and walked away when he got hurt. He's a glutton for punishment. He then couples up with the mistress, goes on with his daily life, and just walks away from his responsibilities but has the gall to ask for his daughter only because the mistress is infertile and she wants a complete family. Shameless is the perfect word. I love how karma plays out in this drama thpugh. The MIL is a but high handed, though. I loved how she loved for first DIL and defended her, but after a while and expensive presents, she apparently can be bought. Karma does allow the ex-wife to find real love and get married. The slag gets her comeuppance because of her gluttony, greed, and insecurities. That was fun. The ex hubby appreciated the ex-wife too late, but she at least appre iated how he helped her along after the divorce. He realized what a treasure he had and threw away for trash. Well, hindsight is 20/20.
